Embarrassing Moments in Fashion

The tag thread got me thinking about embarrassing fashion moments in my life.  Let's share.  I'll start.

Unfortunately, I have two.  I'll try to keep them short.

1.  An unpopular, shy freshman in high school, I was at a picnic for my dad's company.  It was held at a small amusement park and water world place.  I was wearing a fluorescent-and-black, bandeau bikini-top that had boning on each breast.  I went down a waterslide, plunged into the pool at the end, and stood up.  After hearing gasps and seeing about 3 guys from the senior class of my high school, I realized that one of the "bones" in my top flipped up in the water.  One boob hanging (probably more like poking...timidly) out for all to see.  I dove back in the pool and fixed it.  The worst thing is no one whistled or cat-called or anything.  They all looked as mortified as I was.  Ouch.

2. I worked as a writing tutor while an undergrad.  The office in which I worked was on the opposite side of the very large campus.  I was running late one day (as usual).

In my dorm, I always hung my coat on the bunkbed-bedpost.  I grabbed my coat, ran down 4 sets of stairs, and hopped onto the loop bus.  I rode the bus around half the campus, got off, ran across a street, and through a large outdoor plaza to my work building.  In the building I ran down 2 long hallways and up one set of stairs.

Finally arriving at my destination, I drop my bookbag, and take off my coat.  I turn to put my coat on the chair in the office when I see something shiny and burgundy laying on the ground behind me.

I had not only grabbed my coat when I left; I also took with me my sexy, silky burgundy nightie that was hanging on the bed under my coat!  I turned away and yelped, "that's mine!"  I looked around.  No one heard me.  No one saw me.  Thank goodness!  I picked it up and quickly stuffed it in my bookbag.  The nightie was hanging out the bottom of my coat the whole way to work and it didn't drop out until I got there!  I couldn't believe it.

I had a typical one the other day during a musical intermission. I went into the restroom (which was packed with women), once I was finished doing my business I washed my hands and walked out and left. None of the uptight women in there had the decency to tell me that my dress was tucked into my spanx!! My bf came up and goes- go back in there and turn around. I went in there and had to fix myself then went back to my seat. I was mortified, but I don't think anyone saw other than the ladies in the restroom. =)

I was in a rush to get to school (high school) and grabbed my jeans out of the dryer, put them on and headed out.. Once I got to class I felt a lump in the leg of my jeans and it turns out that one of my thongs from the dryer was in the leg of my jeans and at serious risk of falling out at any point! It was too high up to reach in and grab it so at the end of class I had to stand up and kind of shake my leg and grab it off the floor when it fell out... haha I have no idea if anybody saw because I completely avoided any eye contact and just shoved it in my bag and bolted out of there

Really cute stories.  I have nothing as dramatic.  Just a wide fushia patent leather belt that I now shudder that I thought it was hip.  ..... Now, in my own sick way I think I coud make work this fall with all the patent coming back.....hummmmm....

Ugh - at work one day (I wore big slouchy silk pants) and after I went to use the common restroom, I realized the back of my slacks had rubbed against the front side of the toilet and gotten wet! double shudder. Luckily only 2 of my coworkers knew because I ran back to our office and borrowed a pair of sweats from our stock. (also we had a washing machine so I washed my pants).

This might not sound mortifying, but it was.

at the end of last summer, when it was really autumn but still pretty hot, I went out dancing like I usually did on Friday nights. I take ballroom dancing lessons at a classy studio, where most of the students are 40+. There are a handful of us under 30, but most are over that and many well into their 60's and 70s. We're supposed to get dressed up, so usually I wore a dress or a skirt, but I decided on a pair of white shorts with orange pinstripes - I love them and I knew the time to wear them was ending because it was going to get colder in a few weeks. I spent about 10 minutes staring in the mirror trying to decide whether they were too short for the company I'd be in, but finally decided they were fine. But they were not. I don't have a full-length mirror, but my ballroom studio does so when I walked in and saw myself (in my dancing shoes with high heels, no less), I felt like a hooker! It would've been fine with my college friends but not in a room with women who wear dresses to their ankles. I ended up leaving early because I was so self conscious about it. A bunch of people usually go out after the dance at the studio, including my friend Tim. The next week, I was laughing and saying about how I didn't notice how short my shorts were until I got there and that I felt like a hooker. But I was just joking about that - I mean, they weren't hot pants or anything! They wou've been fine in younger company. I was just exaggerating because I was laughing it off. But Tim said, "yeah, you kind of looked like one." I just sat there staring at him because I couldn't believe he said that. Then he said, "when we all went out afterwards, everyone was talking about how short they were." Of course I was mortified considering how classy everyone at the studio is. I didn't go back for a few weeks after that because I didn't want to be the hooker-girl!

Like Willow, I have a thong story to share...

Recently I was running out to Target with my boyfriend to grab some things.. I quickly threw on the same jeans that I was wearing earlier in the day. I grabbed them from a pile on the floor and ran out. We went to Target, got what we needed and got back into the car. I noticed a leopard print thong right in front of the car and was about to scream when I realized it was mine! It must have been stuck in the leg of the jeans, I wore it all the way to Target and it must have slid out when I was walking in. If people saw, no one said anything and neither did I!

LOL! These are so cute and funny!

Something embarrassing happened to me but thankfully I was only like 8 yrs old when it happened! I was at church and I was wearing one of those ugly flowered dresses I used to HAVE to wear. Well we were sitting down and when it came to the time for us to stand up we did. Everythings fine right...until I passed my hands behind my butt to get ready to sit down and I felt that the back of the dress was folded up and stuck to my underwear!!! I was so embarrassed I didnt even want to turn around to see who was behind me!

And this didn't happen to me but I'm sure that if this girl was asked what was her embarrassing momen in fashion she would tell you all this (if she ever knew this happened to her). I was at Target with my mom one night and I turned around to get something and I saw this girl probably in her 20's walking away from me. I didnt pay attention to her until I saw like a stain or something so I turned around again and saw that she had on gray sweats and I guess a wet thong on! She had....I dont know what she was doing but you could see the wet outline of her thong on her butt!! And since the sweats were gray you could really tell. I felt so bad for her!
