My Hula Hut
Permalink Closed

I am a new home owner and my home came with a screened-in detached sunroom thingy with a concrete floor, electric and cable inside.

My plan is to turn it into the "Hula Hut" for summer. I bought a little side table shaped like a tiki head, some chairs and some party lights for hanging inside (the shades on the bulbs are made of sticks tied together).

These little touches are helping, but I really want to go "all out" and make it look really tropical and fun inside. Do you have any other ideas for making it the "Hula Hut" I want it to be?

Thanks!

All I can reccommend is to go to some home and garden centers and see what you can find.  I love Target, they always have lots of cool stuff like that in the summer.  Also, Marshall's home store may turn up some cool chakshkis.

Get some palm type plants, maybe some wicker planters for them, that will really add to the theme.

I have seen the grass skirts sold for bedding in some catalog once, maybe you can find something like that to do a border or line the bottom part of a wall.

How about some textured wallpaper? My mom has this cool brown wallpaper in her house...it's almost like bamboo.

How cool! I was thinking that if you had a bar, you could wrap it with those bamboo window shades from Pier 1.  (I can't find them online, but they're in every store and they're like 25 bucks.)

I'd also go for an outdoor rug.  That way it doesn't get mildew-y if it gets damp and it shouldn't fade either.  Here's Target's selection:  http://www.target.com/gp/browse.html/ref=in_se_pagelist/602-3195962-1511046?ie=UTF8&node=12957351&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=12957351&rank=pmrank&size=57&page=1

Check out your local party supply store. They have Tiki Party decorations. Since you are just doing it for the summer you could get some cheesy things like that. Here are some examples:

Coconut Candle Assorted Tiki Party - Parties - Candles - Party City  Tiki Island Candle Centerpiece Tiki Party - Parties - Candles - Party City82808.jpg

12in Tiki Statue Tiki Party - Parties - Decorations - Party CityLight Up Tiki Bar Sign Tiki Party - Parties - Decorations - Party CityHula Girl Place Setter Hula Girl Party - Parties - Serveware - Party City

Here is the link: http://www.partycity.com/cgi-bin/parties/show.cgi?parties=Tiki

As you can tell this is for a little bit more of a cheesy theme and I'm not sure if thats what you are going for.
