So I'm tired of hearing all the sappy radio songs about love, blah blah blah. I want to make a cd of good, empowering screw him music. Any favorite songs that just make you feel good & independent? I've been blaring Sunday Morning by No Doubt lately. Help me make a cd!
Oh man - I have this cd. I have many of these cds. (The I hate him cd, that is.)
Here are some good places to start:
40 Boys in 40 Nights - The Donnas (more of I'm single and loving it type song) When I Come Around - Green Day Spiderwebs - No Doubt Just a Girl - No Doubt * Perfect Day - Hoku (very empowering in a I'll-do-what-I-want-kinda way) Watch Me Shine - Joanna Pacitti Right to Be Wrong - Joss Stone * You Had Me - Joss Stone (great!) Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson It's On the Rocks - The Donnas (I highly recommend this whole album "Spend the Night" for a lot of girl empowerment.) TKO - Le Tigre * Can't Get Me Down - Lo Ball You Suck - The Murmurs * One Girl Revolution - SUPERCHIC(K)
The Afghan Whigs album Gentleman is one of the most bitter, angry end of love albums I have ever heard. I don't know how empowering it is, but it's pretty good. Gone Daddy Gone by the Violent Femmes Best of You by the Foo Fighters
On a cheesier note, It's Not Right, but It's Ok by Whitney Houston Fighter by Christina Aguilera
My alltime favorite break up song is I hate you so much right now by Kelis. I also like macy grey and india aire(sp?) I really like Mary J Blige, but not always the most empowering.

I always liked "I Need Love" by Sam Phillips... it's super upbeat and always makes me wish I were driving a car fast down a highway when I listen to it. In this fantasy, I am wearing worn in jeans, vintage cowboy boots, and aviators. It's that kind of a song.
Also, I don't know if you like country, but pretty much anything by Jo Dee Messina will put you in a good mood... "Downtime," "Lesson in Leaving," and "Bye Bye Baby" (or maybe it's just "Bye Bye?"). Oh, and also "I'm Not Going Down" and DEFINITELY "My Give-a-Damn Is Busted." The woman is all about "screw you, loser"-type of songs.
Two more: "In State" and "Back to Me" by Kathleen Edwards. "In State" is about a woman who gets fed up with her good-for-nothing outlaw boyfriend and tips the cops off on his hideout. "Don't say you'll change after the next time... maybe 20 years in state will change your mind..."
