How are your gardens coming?

As far as flowering, I've got:
lupine, bleeding heart, violets, purple pin cushion, phlox and some planters/window boxes of wave petunias, geraniums, potato vine, gerbera daisy and some spikes.

Lots of stuff is green, and ready to pop!

We've got a lot of rose bushes and they have been starting to bloom this past week. They are so pretty and smell so nice! It's so cute watching my 14 month old smell the roses! I plan on taking some pictures when there are a lot of blooms.
Our veggie garden isn't doing so well. My dad got seeds from Wal-Mart forgetting that the last time he got seeds from there that hardly anything sprouted. They must sell old seeds or something. Now we'll have to buy some starter plants at a nursery.
I hope our raspberries do as well as last year. My 4 year old absolutely loves them! I think it will be at least a month before I see anything though.
Freshly picked is nice!!!

Mine is going nuts. My persicaria is enormous already and it has little separate off-shoots growing around it, so I've transplated some of those to other areas to hopefully fill in some bald spots. My foxgloves are blooming right now and I'm going to move some of those off-shoots too.

My azaleas peaked a few weeks ago and my rhodadendrons peaked last week. I'm actually thinking about moving my azaleas in the front yard to the back yard because they just look scrappy most of the year and I could stand to have some more shrubs in the back.

Other than that, things are spreading and growing like crazing, including the English ivy, which I loathe. I'm going to have to work on pulling more of that stuff up this weekend. I hate it, but it has to go because copperheads love to hide in it. Yick!

In the garden, we have 8 tomato plants that are all blooming now, 2 bell pepper plants that have really made a lot of growth the past couple weeks, and about 5 yellow sqush hills that we just planted about 2 weeks ago. My basil and oregano are moving right along too. I've also got some sunflowers and zinnas that are making some growth.
As far as flowers, most of my daylilies have swollen buds, and my purple and yellow ones are already blooming. My bedding and container plants (petunias, vincas, geraniums, etc.) are all blooming and look good. The azaleas and crape myrtles did not fair too well from the hard freeze we had Easter weekend. cry

We are very dry here and I wish we could catch some rains- I am tired of watering every day!

Uh, the spider plant in my living room is turning brown. I'm such a plant killer and I have no idea how I do it. I can't imagine the damage I'd do if I had a whole yard to kill.

i'm such a garden novice but...

i have lettuce growing on our deck. i grew it last year successfully so i doubled the amount i'm growing this year. i should have enough for a salad in about a week. :) i can't grow any veggies in our yard because of the deer and bunnies someone even ate my pepper plant last year! if i have any room left on our deck after i get it all fixed up i might try another vegetable up there.

Keep in mind I'm in L.A., so lots of things do well here. We have more veggies growing this year than normal - beets, carrots, radishes, broccoli (inedible), artichokes (ditto, but they're great plants), corn, four kinds of tomatoes just starting to fruit, three kinds of bell peppers plus a cayenne, zucchini, Japanese eggplant, green beans, some lettuce still alive from last season, not to mention the fruits (citrus, peaches, apples, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, boysenberries) and herbs (sage, thyme, oregano, stevia, mint, and so on).

Our roses have been going strong for a few weeks (we have 20-some varieties, mostly English) and some succulents are blooming early. The Buddleia is just starting and perennials like day lilies, gaura, salvia, bromeliads, ceratostigma, cuphea, lavender, irises, tradscantia, hydrangea, and daisies are all blooming.

The tropicals are showing signs of growth, like cordylines, brugmansias (many budding or blooming), bamboo, coffee plants, though the cymbidiums and some shade perennials like vinca, dicentra and brunnera are all at the end of their seasons.

Also a lot of our trees in containers are looking great - too many to list!

I don't have a garden per se, but I finally went to the farmer's market today and bought lettuce, arugula, orange mint and lavendar. They were out of basil cry

, but i'll get that next week.

I put them all in terra cotta (sp?) pots and put them on my deck. I'm psyched!

everything is really green and healthy looking, but not blommed/producing yet (except for my flowe boxes, but those were bloomed when I planted them- pink and purple pansys). Then again, the weather only just got warm enough like 3 weeks ago.

I'm excited though- I have a butterfly garden and some veggies (tomato, japanese eggplant, cucumber, sweet peppers, jalapenio peppers, and about a million different herbs)

Would be great, except I can't keep the beasts out of the veggie garden. I don't know if it's squirrels, raccoons, or opossums doing the damage, but they seem to be eating everything but the green beans! Grrr. Vermin.

a stupid squirrel ate two beautiful and almost ready to pick Japanese eggplants yesterday. I'm so pissed!!

And we just lost our only pear and our eight peaches - the trees are still teeny.
Don't get me started on the avocados. I'll cry.
