What are the major differences between gel and mousse? I once heard that gel is for people with thick hair, etc and mousse is for the ladies with thin, limp hair? Is that the obvious difference?
I think so. and Gel is better for styles you want to stick around. I have huge volume problems and have been using mousse since I was 13, only ever using gel if I was going to a homecoming dance or something and had spiral curls that I wanted to say (oh, those old high school dance hairdoes were something else!). Gel is a lot thicker, and I think it can also dry out your hair if you use too much of the kind with alcohol in it.

i have a lot of hair, but it is fine and i only use root lifter and mousse. gel, imo, is only if you are seriously comitted to your do because it isn't going anywhere. i am not a big fan for down do's. i would only use it for updo's like ttara said. even in thicker hair.
When I used to wear my hair curly, I always used a little gel.....but it did make it crunchy.....so I starting using mousse, and it made it very wavy and pretty. I have VERY thick hair, and it still worked well. Now I don't use either, just frizz ease serum, and curl with an iron...and a little hairspray. But if I want to wear it naturally curly I always use the mousse.

I have had my hair chemically straightened but when it was curly I used a cocktail of different products, but always with a gel base...lots of gel. I used Matrix Bioloage Gelee...it's the best gel out there and I even got DH hooked on it.
