You would think I didn't have a stack of work waiting here for me
Skiing at the Dubai Emirates Mall! It's a huge skiing hill inside the mall. There is a little eating area where you can watch people ski. It's really cool to see people's reactions who had never seen snow before. They had special long down parkas for the women in their jillabeeyas and abayas, so they could maintain their modesty and stay warm.
Sorry so blurry, but you can see the ski lift on the left hand side
Emirate Desert, we went racing on the dunes in SUVs and then had dinner with some Bedouins.

Camels! They had a camel race track right outside the city. The little thing you see with the number 3 on the came on the right is a small robotic jockey that races on the camel. They use those now to replace the small children they used to have race them due to human rights/slavery issues.
Looks like a great vacation! I am jealous, I would love to do something like that! Love the pictures, looks like so much fun! Where did you stay and how did you get there, if you dont mind me asking? I think I may suggest this to the SO for our next trip, we have been talking about doing something different! I am going to go look up flights on Lufthansa now to get an idea of the travel info.!
Sounds Great!! How was Sri Lanka? That is a good price for the airline tickets! I saw that some flights to Dubai have a layover in Frankfort and saw flights from Philadelphia to Frankfort starting at $222 on Lufthansa. I am going to look into flights from Frankfort to Dubai to see what those prices are like. I am such a bargain shopper when it comes to traveling! The hotel looks beautiful, thanks for the link. I am going to look into this a little more. Do you know what the best time of year is best to visit? and can you tell me more about the shopping?!
avalon, Sri Lanka was amazing. Philly to Frankfurt for $222?! wow! I may just have to go to Germany! LOL
The best time to go to Dubai is actually from November to about May. It gets really hot there during the summer. Also avoid going during Ramadan because they are pretty strict about adhering to fasting in the UAE between sunrise and sunset and it's considered rude to eat in public during this time, but hotel rates are pretty low during Ramadan.
The malls they have there are HUGE, and I didn't even make a concerted effort to visit them while I was there. They aren't like American malls in that you have a lot of luxury good stores, as well as stores you can't find in the U.S.
This one was my favorite one:

Also, they have the souks, which are like bazaars, where you can go and bargain for silks, gold, spices, etc., which I think is a lot of fun.
