digital camera recs?
Permalink Closed

I've decided that my tax return is going to buy me a digital camera. It's about time I got one!

Does anyone have reccomendations? Anyone just LOVE their digicam? I'm looking for something around $150. I know that I'm not going to get a stellar camera with that kind of money, because it's basically about as cheap as I can go, but I'm okay with that because I don't need really high-quality pictures. I just want something that I can carry around and take pictures to upload and share with people (and get on thread style or stylediary!)

Anyway, I know that $150 isn't going to buy me an awesome camera but I'd like to get the best one I can for that price.

TIA!

I have two digital cameras- one for work and one for home. Both are Olympus and I love them. Both cost substantially more than $150, but I believe that Olympus makes less expensive versions. I definitely recommend it as a brand.

I believe that companies that originally made cameras (Canon, Nikon) have nicer digicams in general than companies whose primary business is computers (HP)

Did you look on Overstock?

This Nikon Coolpix 4600 has 4.0 megapixels and is only $120 there. It's refurbished, so I don't know if that bothers you. My brother has it and his pictures come out really nicely.

I have a Nikon Coolpix from 2005 and I've been very happy with it. I'm not am amazing picture taker but I've been able to use the features without any problem.

A lot of the girls here are huge Canon fans. There's a Canon PowerShot A530 at Overstock for $150.

I've only owned Fuji FinePix cameras & love them.  My first was about 5 years ago & I've since upgraded to a slimmer version.

I found them to be easy for the photography-challenged like myself, yet affordable.  I've seen a few of them for about $150/$200 @ Best Buy, Target & Office Depot, so you have a few options.

Also, here's a pretty interesting site I found that reviews cameras & lists a few stores to comparison shop for any one in particular.

Good luck!

I agree with lilykind. Canon and Nikon make very good cameras.

as long as you stick with reputable manufacturers (canon, fuji, nikon, sony, olympus), you should be fine. they're all very good, reliable camera makers.

i'm not familiar with how affordable the technology has become, but i think 4-5 megapixels will suit your needs just fine. unless you want HD images, 6+ MP will probably be overkill. you might want to look into zoom (optical! not digital!) and anti-blur/shake features.
