I've been thinking about this lately because a friend had me take one of those online personality tests and I scored exactly as I thought -- I'm a social introvert. Sounds like an oxymoron, but it's true: I do enjoy being around people and I have a lot of friends, but I absolutely need time by myself to decompress and make sense of the world. If I had to be surrounded by people 24/7, I'd freak out.
I've been an extrovert most of my life...like, if I just had a couple hours on my hands with nothing pressing to do and no one to hang out with, I would go bonkers and just go shopping to be around people, but lately I'm becoming more and more introverted. I share less personal things with others, I talk less, and I hang out by myself a *whole lot* more. I probably only go out a couple times a week. Usually I spend my nights alone in my apartment and am fine with it, whereas before I'd go nutty.

I'm the same way, I like to be around people sometimes but most of the time I'd rather be at home with DH. I don't really make friends because I know I'll just end up avoiding phone calls and not being a very good friend. I like to be around family though, I have 3 sisters and they're pretty much my best friends. It never feels like an effort to call them or make plans with them...I wish I could feel like that with non-family.
I'd say I'm a social introvert too. I do love to go out with friends , but most of the time new people end up boring me or exhausting me rather than giving me energy, like Kitty said.
introvert. i'm not chatty unless i know you. most people assume i'm stuck up, but i was really shy as a kid, now i'm just quiet. i hate meeting new people and trying to make small talk. i'd rather hang with my family or my (few) close friends.

I got 100% extrovert- very expressed extrovert. But I think I already knew that. And for the record, I'm an ENFJ with the second highest percentage feeling, then slightly lower intuitive and a very small percentage judging.
i'm a "moderately expressed introvert", which i expected. i'm quite shy and it takes a while for me to become comfortable with people. i don't necessarily want to be alone, but i prefer being with a small group of friends rather than in a big group of people
ISFJ. Which is fascinating to me. I've taken the Myers-Briggs before (and subsequent tests based on it, like this one) and had always, always come back INFP. But I've been working for a long time to change parts of myself, and when I've taken the test in the last few years, I've come back INFJ. And now ISFJ.
I realize these things aren't 100% accurate, but I am encouraged to think that the things I've been working on are changing. I will never be an extrovert though. While I enjoy going out and being social, I need a *lot* of alone- or downtime. Working from home is great for me because I don't have to interact with an office social structure. But usually by the time DH (who is an extrovert) comes home, I'm ready for interaction, when he thrives on.

I have been thinking about my personality type a lot because of various, major transitions going on in my life in the past year.
I'm INFP - - quite strongly so. MBTI is so interesting. Working as a "career counselor" (I added quotes because I feel more like a career technician), I use personality type every single day.
There is also MBTI Step II which digs into the details of the 8 preferences - - so it can get really detailed.
I like to learn about the culture-connection with the 16 types. They have done research that shows the prevailing, generalized, valued type in many countries. For example, USA is very ESTJ, and England is more ISTJ. I think I probably ought to move to Denmark or something...

I took the test again and it came out ENFP this time (instead of ENFJ). Actually, every other time I've taken the test, I get ENFP as the result. I must have had an off day when I took this three years ago.
pollyjean, I've also done a lot of analyzing of my personality type, too, due to life changes and career moves and such. I've always thought those things were total crap, but really they have some serious validity.
Last year, I took the Enneagram 9 Types test and ended up being a 7 with an 8 wing (which closely aligns with ENFP). By further examining my personality type against SO's (he's a 9 with an 8 wing), we could figure out what makes us work well together and what problems we might have, and also how to deal with them. It also helped me understand why I am the way I am (an idea person who has issues concentrating on just one thing at a time- kind of like a bouncy ball), and it's help me develop methods of dealing with those weaknesses.
