...starting to think about self-tanner again. what will you be trying or going back to for spring/summer?
those temporary bronzing foams that don't rub off also sound great (and probably don't stink), but you can't apply moisturizer with them. the sheen that comes from a lotion or a little dry oil is what makes skin look "toned". i can't imagine wearing a dress without lotion on my legs.
I started using Jergen's Glow occasionally on my legs and so far I like it. Doesn't stink and doesn't turn me orange. Oh, and it doesn't look all fake-y, just a nice subtle color.
I'm going to try a Mystic tan since they just opened up a new salon by Target. This is something I would not do regularly since it's expensive. No way would I pay $90 for three tans. I'm going to use a coupon of 3 for $29.90 and that would probably be the end of it.
I usually rock the vampire look... I don't tan easily and every sunless tanner I've tried leaves me stinky and streaky.
I just need to go out enough to get some color on me! I'm okay with pasty legs as long as I don't look sickly. In the winter, if I don't put on some makeup, everyone will ask me all day if I'm sick because I look so grossly pale

I'll be pale too! I don't tan, just burn. I've never tried any tanners except for that gradual lotion kind. I gave up on that because I was too impatient to wait to see if it worked. I just think tanners would look too funny on me. Better to look pale than to look like an Oompa Loompa! I'll still wear capris, but I'm still afraid to wear shorts! I have to be really carefull which colors to wear.
Does anyone know how long mystic tan lasts?? I tried it once about 6 years ago, and nearly suffocated to death in there haha. But I cannot remember how long it lasted.......

Even the gradual kind looks weird on me after one day. ugh. But I know what you mean about the colors - in the winter I can wear jewel tones and look fine, especially since I have dark hair. But in the summer, the available color palattes just wash me out.

I have a year long paleness, too. I tan well, but I worry about skin cancer too much. Last year, I tried JNG, and it was real patchy on me even though I made sure to apply it evenly. I looked like I had Vitiligo (sp?).
Despite living in SoCal, I rock the palest skin I have (I have medium toned skin). I generally avoiud sun exposure and when I do go out, the only thing I have on is SPF 30.

I have this problem too - we fair-skinned, dark-haired girls don't usually look good in pastels. I just make sure that I don't buy tanks / tees / summer tops unless they are in bolder colors or jewel tones. They're harder to find, but it can be done. Usually I end up subbing brights for jewel tones in the summer. But often teal / turquoise, fuchsia, red and other bold colors are available even in the summer fashions.
ETA: I can use JNG and have manageable results. But when I don't feel like the effort involved with self-tanner, Jergens makes a shimmer lotion that is nice on pale skin. DH always compliments my skin on the days I use it.

I'm also a pale-skinned, dark-haired gal and I usually stick to JNG or Neutrogena self-tanner foam mixed with lotion. I use it just to keep me from looking like I haven't left the house in a decade.

A few days - depending on how exfoliated/moisturized your skin is. I always did it a day before the event I wanted to be tan for happened.
As for me, I also am the palest of the pale. My boyfriend (very tan) constantly harasses me for my lack of color but he'll appreciate it one day when all our friends are dried up old prunes and I still have soft, supple skin. (At least that's what I tell him and myself.)
I like Estee Lauder's self-tanner if I actually go to the trouble to use it. I like the look of it on my arms and shoulders so my Oprah wave doesn't look so hideous when I wear sleeveless tops. But I'd usually just rather throw on a short sleeved cardi.
I also tried a non self-tanner (I can't remember the brand but it's at Sephora) for a color at a wedding last summer. It worked very well and I'll probably use that again this summer for nights out, weddings, etc.
I prefer doing Mystic before a big event or if I have to be in a bathing suit so I'm covered all over. Otherwise, my very favorite is Neutrogena Micro Mist. It's a very light aerosol spray mist so it's easy to get hard to reach places. The color is great and I like to put on layers to get darker. It does smell so I would only do it at night.
I use the clarins self tanner. It's not perfect, but the color is perfect for my skin, and it smells almost good. I am intruiged by the sprays though - because the clarins does streak a bit unless I'm super careful.
