Maybe this is a stupid question, but if I buy software (specifically Photoshop) on eBay, and the seller says "it's used but legal"...is it really? Isn't that piracy? I'm not trying to stir up trouble, but eventually I'd like to upgrade to newer versions, and want to make sure I can do so legally.
There are so many used versions of software listed on eBay; I'd think people (sellers) would be worried about piracy issues, but maybe I'm just being over-cautious. Can anyone set me straight?

I would think that if its used, no one else can use it. At my company, half the people there have to have photoshop on our computers, and they have to buy it new for every computer, because you're not supposed to use the same software and install it on more than one computer.
I guess I'm not positive, though.

I think that you can uninstall it and then reinstall it on a new computer, but otherwise, you can't install it on more than one computer at the same time. The new versions of some software (Adobe) actually prevent you from installing it on more than one computer. The older versions don't and all you need is the right code for it to install it on multiple computers.
I would think that with used software, it would be really hard to tell if it's legal. If you have the original copy, there's no telling if the original user didn't burn extra copies.
My hubby says the only way to be totally sure is to read the end user license agreement specific to photoshop. He says it differs for every software vender and sometimes even versions of the program. In general he says it is possible to buy used software, although he says to be wary of doing so on ebay because it's easier to get a pirated copy that way. HTH!
