Energy efficient light bulbs anyone?

We use these all the time, too. Like squishy says, now they have a better range of options; you can get them so that they look like normal light bulbs. I'm not sure who makes ours, though.

We have them in every single socket and fixture in our house - inside AND out!
So they are fine to use outdoors? I know typical flourescent bulbs don't work well in cold...so are there any problems with these if you have them outdoors and it's icy/snow outside?

If everyone switched to these types of bulbs, we could save so much energy.  If the light is too bright, try switching to a lower wattage.  They are so worth it....not only for your own pocket book but for the environment as well.  I've also found some that have a rounded cover like a regular light bulb if you don't like the look of them.

One other thing, I believe they are supposed to be recycled and not thrown away in the garbage.  I think you can take them to where ever you bought them and they should recycle them for you.  I haven't had to throw any out yet because they last so long.  Does anyone else know about this?

Ikea carries them for a good price in the lighting section

We got a 3-pack from them for about $5 & have been using them for about 4 months.  I've noticed a bit in savings & they cast a nice glow.  I have a 60-watt in my reading lamp on my nightstand & have no problems reading @ night.

This is correct- DH says flourescent bulbs aren't supposed to be thrown in the garbage but people do.

We got a special one to go outside that's rated for a lower temperature.  It's protected from the elements (in a fixture and way up underneath our portch roof) - takes a couple minutes to warm up and get really bright, but works great!  I think it was $5 for our outdoor one, which is higher wattage than the indoor ones, too.

I love mine -- the cost, the lighting, the environment, everything!

I use them also...particularly in the light fixtures that get the most use.
