We're going to Hawaii for our honeymoon, but we haven't yet determined which islands to go to. We probably only want to stay at 2 hotels (or maybe 3) rather than doing extensive island-hopping. Can you guys recommend which are the best to stay on, or what the relative merits of the islands are?
I think Oahu and Maui probably have the most things to do as far as places to eat, shop, etc. I haven't been to Kaui, but from what I heard it is really pretty, very natural and different from Maui and Oahu in that respect.
We spent most of our time there in Maui and it is really pretty. The road to Hana is the most beautiful thing there. It is about a 50 mile drive through rainforests and past waterfalls and beaches. There is a black sand beach there that is amazing. We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani. It is a little on the pricey side, but well worth it.
My brother got married on Oahu at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental. It's a beautiful hotel but very expensive. We spent most of our time doing wedding-related stuff, so I don't have a lot of advice on things to do, but I loved being in Hawaii. I'm actually going back in March so I'll report more afterwards!
We went to the big island and to Kauai on our honeymoon. We both really liked Kauai (we stayed at the Hyatt) and went on the most amazing Catamaran tour of the north coast while we were there. Very green and lush and amazing!
