another ipod question

I feel like an idiot for not being able to figure this out b/c I totally should be able to, but anyway--- How do I get songs onto my ipod that are already mp3 files, but not from itunes? The stupid thing automatically connects to my itunes software, but I have another program that I download music from and I have a ton more songs on there and  I want them on my ipod!!
