I am going to FL at the end of march. I am going for work but we get a day or 2 to ourselves. I was thinking about Disney World, how can you go wrong with Disney, but would like other options as well. I know we will be in or near orlando. Is it worth it to do Disney World if I only have 1 free day? I also heard that they have a safari thing that would be cool because I LOVE animals? Does anyone know what the weather is like in March-April in FL. I am super white and HATE the heat. I hope I don't melt!! I am pretty excited.
It's going to be 80's-90's in March and April, so not too insanely hot. You can go to Disney World if you have just one day but pick a park and stick with it. You can go to Animal Kingdom if you love animals, it's not my favorite park but it's cool and it would keep you busy. It usually closes earlier than the other parks though, you might want to check that out. If you only have one day and have never "done Disney" I would go to Magic Kingdom.
I second BellinaJessica if you have never been to Disney I would do the Magic Kingdom. Animal Kingdom is fun, but would not really fill up a day as well as Magic Kingdom. Since it is the newest park, it doesn't have as many attractions. AK is cool though and you would enjoy either, but MK is just classic Disney. The weather in March and April is perfect. We go every year in March for that reason, it is a great temperature and before hurricane season starts. Downtown Disney and Universal Studio's City Walk are fun places to hang out at night, if you have time to yourself then and both are free admission, except for Pleasure Island, the club section of Downtown Disney. HTH!
Disney is great but you would get a taste if you only had one day and would most likely want to go back really soon.
The safari thing you are hearing about is one of 2 things: 1) safari ride at Animal Kingdom - its ok but only like a 10-15 min ride at the most. Disney people hate to compare that park to a zoo but that's how I feel it is. Its a zoo with rides.
2) Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort Safaris - this is a Disney hotel that is near the park and they have "savana" views where you can look out the window and see wild animals. People love that. They also have safari's that you pay extra for at the hotel and you do go out and see the animals. Its a few hours from what I've heard. I've never been but I'm sure the guidebooks can tell you about it or the disney websites/message boards (allearsnet.com and disboards.com)
Other points of interest include: Prime Outlet Mall Dinner shows - dolly's dixie stampede is really good. I did NOT care for Arabian Nights. I was treated subpar there and will not recommend or go back. Universal Studios Seaworld The Holy Land Experience (yes its a theme park - no rides I believe) Tampa has Busch Gardens which is really nice.
I was in Orlando last year in April and it was nice - not too hot not too cold. I think a light jacket was all I really needed with pants/jeans.
If you love animals you should go to Sea World. Animal Kingdom is cool but like Aurora said, it is a lot like a zoo. Sea World, in my opinion, is amazing. I have been there three times and have never gotten bored. They have a lot of really cool attractions and tons of animals and a really cool light show at night (at least they used to, years ago, I hope they still do).
