What did everyone think?

It wasn't one of my favorite episodes for sure.  I enjoyed that we were finally going to see what Desmond was all about but I didn't want it to be the WHOLE entire show.

I'm so confused now. I feel like they just opened a whole new can of worms with the idea of time travel. It also kind of reminded me of Final Destination with the, "The universe has a way of course-correcting itself."

I feel more confused now than ever with that show.

I hated it.  I feel completely confused & like they have no idea where the show is going.  They keep promising answers & instead keep throwing in new posibilities - it reminds me of a poll.  Like they want to see the response before they decide the way they are going to go.  I'm fed up & will likely stop watching.  With great shows like Heros, Greys, the sci fi things that I like, it's just a waste of my time.

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who was  last night. When are they going to answer some questions instead of throwing all this other stuff in? Aside from all the confusion, I was totally crying when Desmond broke up with Penny though.  I felt sooo sad for her.

I'm waffling on the episode.  I enjoyed it because I wanted more background on Desmond.  However, I was expecting action and it was a pretty slow episode.

Charlie's personality is really starting to annoy me.

The preview for next week did say that the episode would answer three of the big mysteries.  Hopefully, we'll get some satisfaction.

I actually really liked it. It was the first episode we got that didn't have a flashback (at least in the traditional form). I definitely don't think that there is actually time travel involved. I just think that Desmond bashed up his head pretty bad and had a very lucid dream (perhaps the result of some kind of experiment, a al Karl). Kind of like a reverse Wizard of Oz- he dreamed of home and woke up in Oz instead. This is totally in keeping with the other Wizard of Oz references that the show has had-- Henry Gale, the guy in this past episode with red shoes, etc. Just fun, little Easter eggs that the producers give us.

Obviously, though, since turning the key, Desmond does have some kind of pre-cognitive powers. And I really do think that they're going to kill off Charlie, which wouldn't bother me too much b/c he's never been a favorite of mine.

I loved seeing more of Desmond and I wanted to cry for him when Pen's father got those two glasses out and then didn't give him the whiskey. How awful! And then when he broke up with Pen, I wanted to cry again!

I can't wait until next week. I wonder what questions they're going to answer-- My guess is that one of them is what happened to the people that were taken by the others, since we saw Cynthia (the tailie stewardess) in the previews.

Me, too!  If that's not a speech that makes you want to crawl into a hole and die, I don't know what is!

I actually really liked the episode.  I liked learning more about Desmond and I don't think he was time-travelling at all.  I think he just has some abilities to see the future without travelling.

I thought it was so awesome when he just started chugging down that scotch after being told it was worth more than he would make in a month.  Awesome.

Charlie's gotten a bit annoying, but I don't want to see him die.  I always felt like he and Claire had a special connection and I'd like to see where they're going with that before he dies.

More than anything though, I miss seeing the group as a whole.  I mean, Sayid and Locke were barely in this episode and we've hardly seen any of them at all this season.

I hope next week is good.  I'd like to see them resolve some of the questions, even though I feel like they're working on that.

Also--did anyone rewatch last week's episode?  I have a question:  when Jack is operating on Ben and Tom (aka Zeke) is helping him, Jack asks Tom why they didn't take Ben off the island if they were able to come and go as they wanted.  Tom's response is "Ever since the sky turned purple..." and then Jack nicks an artery and Tom never finishes what he was saying.  (This is all about 29 minutes into last week's episode if anyone wants to watch.)  Anyway, what's that all about?  When did the sky turn purple and why would that affect their ability to get on and off the island?

The sky turned purple when Locke didn't push the button in the hatch, and Desmond went down with the fail-safe key, and then the hatch imploded on itself.  When it did it shook the island and the sky flashed purple.

Maybe the electromagnetic overload brought down communications with the outside world?

I really liked this episode, too. And they DID answer questions, like why Desmond can suddenly see the future, and why he can't leave. I wonder if Michael and Walt ever really got out of there? So far I am finding this season much improved.

Also, have they mentioned Desmond's full name before? I don't remember hearing that the last part of his name is David Hume. I am glad we're back to the characters-connected-to-philosophers thing. If you're not familiar with David Hume's theories, check it out , especially the part about Hume's theories on free will.

I think they have mentioned Desmond's last name before -- in the flashback when it showed him getting out of military jail, I believe the guard used his last name when returning Desmond's possessions.

I also really enjoyed the episode.  I liked the little joke with Charlie singing an Oasis song, since Drive Shaft always seemed like an Oasis-type band with feuding brothers.  And the painting with the polar bear in Penelope's dad's office.  Next week looks like a good one too.

The Penelope/Desmond story seems totally like The Odyssey to me: both women are named Penelope, both men are on long sailing voyages, and both women have new suitors at home.  (Penny mentioned she was engaged when she saw Desmond at that track where he later met Jack.)  If the stories really are to parallel, then I think Desmond will eventually get back home to Penelope again.

Ditto.  I also think the music helps place the time too, like it did awhile ago with a Dave Matthews song in Shannon's backstory.  IIRC, Oasis was popular in the late 90's, which would mean a lot happened to Desmond between the time when he started having the visions and when he ended up on the island.  Hopefully we'll get to see what happened in the middle to help piece things together.

I hated this episode also.  I feel like it was a waste, since we didn't get any answers and the plot didn't move forward.  We learned nothing new.  We already knew Desmond was pre-cog, and I feel like this episode didn't tell us why/how, it only confused me more.

I hate how every episode is so character-centric.  I liked the old episodes where there were segments spent on several characters.

I'll give the show a few more episodes to redeem themselves before I give up on it.

Hmmmm....you might have to give up. The producers and writers have all said that this show is a character-centric show. That's what drives it and that's what they focus on. Sooooo...it may only get more character-centric as the season progresses.

That WAS sad.  Also - the shocked look on Charlie's face at the end.

For some reason, this latest ep didin't get Tivo'ed. So I just watched it online. I loved it! Of course, anything that is all Desmond I will watch. He's one of my favorite characters.

I am also finding Charlie's character somewhat annoying, but don't want them to kill him off. And I agree that I'd like to see more of the original Losties. I miss the group dynamic among them all.
