I dont have 'after' pics of the living room so I'm using my novice paint skills
DH painted MIL's 3 living room walls tan and the 4th main wall a mint green. We replaced her broken mini blinds w/matchstick blinds. We want to put curtains up to create a layered look and create more privacy (pedestrians can c-thru at night).
The windows are placed exactly like the room below, one on the right side of tan wall and two right next to ea. other on the left side of the green wall. Initially when I thought DH would paint the entire room tan, I was thinking olive, but now that there's 2 colors, I'm completely thrown off on what will work.
Suggestions anyone?
Oh! The tables are the same color, but the couches are mocha brown.
Well the colors are very soft and what your describing sounds very beachy. So I would go with either a linen or a heavy twill curtain. Either deep ivory ( and lined so it would allow extra privacy) or choc brown.
Thanks ladies. Brown or a Heavy Twill Canvas Ivory were the only colors I could think of as well. My 3rd choice was Olive? But I would have to see how it looks IRL b4 I commit.
MIL had chocolate brown drapes up but the attached valance is leopard print. Maybe I can reuse they if I remove the leopard valance and have a seamstress take in a couple inches to insert the rod.
To be honest, it's the mint that throws this all off for me. I'd be interested to see how shades of blue work - french blue (almost a denim color) or navy. But I don't like blue much, so I'm not recommending it exactly, only curious.
My other thought was a rusty red, more cayenne than cranberry, but only if you can bring in that color with some prints in the other textiles such as in throw pillows or a rug. Green and rust is a typical Pottery Barn pallete, so check their site for ideas.
Finally, you might want to think about prints like a subtle, washed-out plaid or stripe incorporating beige and green. I am a fan of the "beachy" feel Alliegurl suggests, so that might be something to keep an eye out for. Try linensource.com, domestications.com, lnt.com and other bed/bath places for some inspiration.
Generally mint has a lot of blue in it (versus sage, which has more brown/gold) so I'd avoid a solid brown color. I think brown is going to clash, but you know the color betta'n me, so try a couple things and see what works.

BargainQueen, if you have a Linens & Things near you, check their clearance now. I saw some very pretty plaid silk curtains in shades of gold and soft green. They were originally $80 and marked down to about $20 I think. Anyway, I saw them and thought they might work for you. Definitely worth the sale price if they're your style.
