How was your 2006? What do you want in 2007?
Permalink Closed

I always think about what has happened the past year on New Years.  It always surprises me how much has changed- especially this year.  Some things that happenened in 2006 for me:

+broke up w/bf of 3 years, loved him but just wasn't happy

+jumped the gun and moved out of an apt/location in brooklyn that I didn't like

+moved into an amazing apt. with girls that have become some of my closest friends in an area I adore

+scope of my job has changed exponentially- got a promotion to production manager from assistant, have paid vacation, a lot more responsibility and input, etc.

+met a boy on vacation in April- things have been going amazingly and I could see myself with him- he visits in less than 2 weeks!

+gained 10 pounds (woops!)

+for the most part, feel happier and more at peace than in the past years

For 2007:

+go on a real vacation (california for the first time, maybe Europe or South America)

+don't let my job stress me out as much- I think it'll be much better when this season is over (Feb/March)

+start trading stocks again and try to save as much money as possible

+get rid of things i don't use, acquire less

+eat better, exercise, and lose about 5 lbs, just so my clothes fit me again!!

+make more of an effort to go out w/new people

+see my family as much as possible, call them more

+say I love you to the people I care about more often

+keep the apt. cleaner!!

Good Poll.

2006

~ I moved foward with my career, got a title change and more responsibilities.

~ I got rid of Stupid once and for all.

~ I moved into my own place, no roommates, no boyfriends. Just me.

~ I took more classes in graphic and multi-media design that have boosted my career and prepared me for grad school.

~ I had a really messy, yearlong situation with McStubborn that is on the cusp of being figured out.

~ I got back in touch with some old friends who once meant a lot to me and now do again.

~ Through all of the crazy dating, the Hamburger Diaries, Stupid, McStubborn, E, et al, I've really gotten to know myself better and really know what I want. I've discovered that some of the things that I thought I wanted weren't really what I wanted when I actually found them. I've surprised myself with some of the changes I've gone through, but overall, I'm a stronger, happier, more independent person than I was at the start of 2006.

2007

~ Get a raise and an assistant to go with that title change and increased responsibilities.

~ Start grad school in the fall.

~ Move away from PA.

~ Finally figure things out with McStubborn and get on with my life, either with him or without him.

~ Take a vacation. I haven't had a real vacation in nearly 5 years.

~ Get back into community theatre.

my 2006 was eventful to say the least:

- I quit smoking

- I left my dream job due to having to report to a seriously mentally ill boss

- I was diagnosed with cancer and a gene mutation and had to have both my breasts removed

- stylethread was featured in PC magazine

- I learned who my real friends were

- I gained weight

- I learned more about who I am, don't beat myself up as much, and am a happier person because of it

- I learned what true love is

for 2007, I resolve to:

- make the most of my life based on what I learned in 2006

- get stylethread on a regular schedule again

- give more to charity - specifically Heifer International and Kiva

- get back in shape and lose the weight I have put on over the last year

- get more sleep

- pamper myself more and make sure I take care of myself

- come to terms that it's in my best interest to get my ovaries removed and go into early menopause (the worst/best resolution on my list)

- be more focused, disciplined, happier, and productive

i had one of my patients tell me recently that he has better luck on odd years than even years and i realized, after a bit of calculating, that it's true for me too....so i have high hopes for 2007.

2006 was pretty uneventful for me:

  • i made a large career change for the better

  • fixed a couple key relationships

  • finally got over a very past ex (huge for me, but sad that i let it go on for so long)

  • gained some weight (i'm glad i'm not the only one)

  • figured out a good skin care routine

  • increased my savings/contributions to my 401k by about 20%

  • spent more time with my bf thanks to my career move

  • had more sex thanks to my career move

2007 i want:

  • to have more sex (i always make this resolution and it's always one that i keep!!! )

  • take one fitness class a week (swimming/kickboxing/yoga) since i hate the gym

  • continue to run with my friend after work and try to love running again (it's been a long time since i've enjoyed it..hence the weight gain)

  • read more

  • buy more jewelry/less clothes

  • engage in more social clubs/outings

  • have a couple really great vacations

  • continue to build my relationships with the ones i love

  • buy a second home

  • look into going back to school

2006 was an interesting year for me to say the least:

-Realized that the business world is not where I want to spend my career and finally came to terms with the fact that I am wasting my talents and personality by not sharing them with others
-Got completely screwed over at my job and decided to quit without a new one rather then work for jerks that I didn't trust
-Got a great new job working for people that I admire and that really believe in taking care of their employees
-(Not that I didn't do this before 2006, but) I finally saw what an exceptional person my BF is and gained a greater respect and appreciation for him.  This was after he agreed to support me when I quit my job until I found a new one, not only monetarily, but emotionally as well.
-Decided to go back to school to teach High School English and Theatre.  My two greatest loves are the theatre and books.  I am excited to have the opportunity to share that with others and perhaps make an important impact on their lives.
-Found out that my grandmother (my last living grandparent) may not be with us through 2007.
-Made a couple of great new friends that I am really excited about.
-Fell more in love with Vinny, my baby boy

For 2007:

-Start my degree in Education
-Pay off the bit of debt that I incurred while unemployed
-Spend more time at my own place rather then always being at the BFs.  This one is going to be really hard considering that I love to be with him and Vinny so much.  I just know that I have to do this in order for us to move forward in our relationship.
-Call my mom and my sister more
-See more independant films
-Go to a few more plays
-Volunteer for a local charity
-Spend more time with my friends

Cool poll!  For me, 2006 seems like it was kind of a dud because career stuff sucked, but when I go back and look at the details, 2006 doesn't seem so bad.

2006:
Paid off our credit card debts and kept it off
Gave notice at my job that I would be quitting
Went on vacation to Jamaica
Remodeled the master bathroom
Weight stayed about the same

2007:
Get a new job
Take the GRE, apply to and start grad school
Lose about 12 pounds
Keep saving money at my current level and increase it when possible
Make the bed every day/tidy up the house when I get home from work every day

2006:

* Got into some substantial debt, but paid it all off
* Reconnected w/my high school best friend.  She came to visit me and we've been close again ever since.
* Got rid of some pretty toxic friends.
* Made some new friends who I've realized in a short time, are really great, geniune people.
* Spent more time w/my family and SO's family.
* Learned to really cook and starting experimenting w/recipes more.
* Shopped way too much!
* Realized I do not want to continue to work in the Corporate world anymore and would love to go back to school to be a Nurse.

2007:

* Go back to school.
* Stay out of debt.
* Save more money.
* Take a vacation to somewhere tropical w/SO.  We have never been on a vacation like that together in our 5 years together.
* Get a dog.
* Move to a different apartment.
* Take either a yoga or pilates class.
* Learn to deal w/stress better.
* Get more sleep during the week.
* Spend more time w/friends.
* Learn to accept my sister-in law.  My brother obviously loves her, so I should be at peace w/her.
* Once and for all, get on a more routine work-out schedule just to stay fit.  My SO's a personal trainer afterall!
* Take a trip to California to see my brother and SIL.

This is a really cool poll!

2006 was a mixed bag:

*  Moved into a great house w/ more space
*  Kicked butt on a really challenging project at work
*  Took a great trip to NYC
*  Loved DH more than ever
*  Went on a really fun concert going road trip w/ my bff and sister
*  Dealt w/ health problems all year, which kind of casts a shadow on all the good stuff
*  Gained almost 30lbs as a result of the health problems

2007:

*  Throw more parties
*  Live healthy, hopefully my health will continue to get better and I'll lose the weight
*  Save for a trip to S. America
*  My best friend is pregnant and I'm really excited about it
*  Pay off more debt and save more
*  Accept my mother-in-law, try to focus on her better qualities
*  Continue to improve my knitting skills
*  Take more photos
*  Be more focused at work (I say this every year)

In 2006:
* I underwent LEEP (where they cut part of the top layer of your cervix due to suspect cells).  I'm afraid the way I scar will later affect my fertility.
* I significantly supported my brother who is not only depressed but doesn't know what to do with his life (he's 22)
* I was in an on/off very difficult relationship
* I worked my butt off, 7:30 - 6:30 most nights... but it's the best job I've ever had & I seriously don't even realize the time while I'm there
* my place flooded while I was at work which caused a whole slew of events - including my downstairs neighbor's condo was deemed unlivable (he had to move out, and I feel so bad even though it wasn't my fault).  This ordeal cost me soo much time, with the insurance adjustors, the water damage people, the carpet people, the trim people, etc. etc. I can't wait to move!
* I finally became true friends with the ex
* I also fell into a depression this past fall, and isolated myself from friends and family
* on a more positive note, I went on quite a few getaways: utah, scottsdale, rocky mtn ntl park, mn, door county, and a few vacations: costa rica, miami/cayman islands/jamaica
* I redid some of my living area with a new bookcase, entertainment console, 42" plasma, leather ottoman, accessories - and paid for it 100% myself
* I cooked more & tried quite a bit new recipes.  I was able to pack my lunch 95% of the time (which was one of last year's goals, yay)
* I volunteered quite a bit

In 2007, I hope to:

* get out of this depression
* be happier with myself so I can be good company to others & stop attracting crazies
* do something fabulous for my 30th bday
* dance or exercise again, because I feel totally out of shape
* finally sell a bunch of stuff I keep piling in the corner, thinking "I'll ebay this later"
* decide for once and for all what to do about school, which I've been putting off way too long
* take my mom on a trip to South America this summer
* learn more about wine
* redo my dining room

And the usual goals:
* buy less but better & smarter
* read more
* keep in better contact with friends & family
* save more
* volunteer more
* travel more to places that mean something to me
* say no more often
* stop procastinating
