Right now, the bedroom is purple. 3 walls are a french lavendar color, and the wall behind the bed is a darker purple. They are more of a blue purple than a red. The wood in the room is a birch has an Asian inspired feel to it. The floors are wood. I have accented the room with orange, and the bedding/rug is a latte tone.
Can I get away with painting the room a chocolate brown? I have some purple glass items in there, and I'd like to keep the small bits of orange too. Could I just switch the walls for a chocolate brown and be done with it? I like a dark color on bedroom walls, and I'm not loving the purple as much as I had hoped. It feely too college-ish.
Since brown is a neutral, I think you should be able to switch with no problem. And with your purple and orange accents, it will make the room feel very rich and luxurious.
Good luck, and be sure to post pictures when it's done!
My bedroom is chocolate brown with teal and yellow accents. I think it would be a similar effect with purple and orange. I love it and so does everyone who sees it. I say go for it!

Ohh I love the idea of changing the wall color to brown! It reminds me of a beautiful vase I've had my eye on for ever but won't buy because it doesn't match my apartment. The vase is brown with big lavendar, soft orange, and light pink polka dots. Not a typical color combination, but believe me - it's really pretty!

My sister In law just did this, and I think it looks beautiful. She added some gold accents to "warm up" the color palette and it is so pretty! Go for it , and post pics when your done!!
I was thinking some gold sheers and pillowshams with brown and gold would be nice to warm it up. The metal in the room is brushed nickel but I think that will balance the whole thing nicely.
RICA - Where is this vase you speak of? I may need it!
I'm going to go for it!
Well, I'm going to mention it to hubby and see if I can get him on board.
YES! We have grey w/some purple bedding and a chocolate brown vanity and a brown chest of drawers all with brushed nickel hardware. We "inherited" (I stole it bc it's been my favorite chair forever) a large loveseat from my parents that is VERY 1983 with some orange and (i pretend) some brown in it. it doesn't really go with the feel of the bedroom, but it blends.
So, purple, orange, brown and anyother colors you want will definitely look good together.
I think it's contemporary but still warm and cozy, which can be hard to accomplish. Actually it's a little bit like my new color scheme in the master bedroom - which is dark brown, khaki, and lilac.
I'm not completely in love with my new look yet, and I can't find a rug to save my frigging life. (I didn't follow my own advice: rug first, then paint.) Our room is an odd shape so three different wall colors works well and helps define the bed area and the sitting area.
Maybe start by putting chocolate over the dark purple as an accent wall and see how you like it?
I find purple to be somewhat challenging. It's really hard to get the right shade.
