How to wear flats?
Permalink Closed

I have a few pairs of flats that are awkward to wear...

I wear them with my pants that are too short to wear with heels.  I'm 5'4 so I normally prefer to have a bit of height, and most of my pants are regular length so they need heels.

Do you wear yours w/ hose or socks?  I feel weird wearing my black flats w/ black socks but it's too cold without!

right now it is freakishly warm here, so I haven't yet hit the coldness problem, but when I first bought some I really thought they looked awkward with everything, while I was still getting used to how they looked.

I really love it when people wear straight leg pants and flats, although I have yet to try that yet because I still have to get my straight legs hemmed

I think they look terrible with socks, but I have a sort of socks-should-never-show rule, so it could be just my own weird little thing. But basically, I wear them with miniskirts and cropped or straight-legged pants... in the warmer months only.

I love my flats and I wear mine with  thinner trouser socks. I have colors like navy, black, brown,& grey.  I also have some that are  textured. here are some examples

yea, i like trouser socks- i usually just get them from kohls.  for black flats, you could try a patterned or lacy black pair- like those fleur de lis ones that small fry posted.  i agree that solid black might look strange.  depends on the flats though- some look awkward w/any kind of socks- so those are for summer only.

I had the same dilemma last year, and someone here recommended beige/natural fishnet trouser socks - they keep your feet warm, but don't add too much color.  They work perfectly!  I got a bunch at Banana and Ann Taylor. HTH!

I second the beige/natural trouser socks idea, as well as textured ones.  Maybe even a color -- I have experimented with that a little this year.

I either wear mine with nothing on my feet or I wear colored or patterend tights with them.

They also look great with skinny or straight leg jeans , cords or velvet pants.
