making a recording your RAZR ringtone?
Permalink Closed

Does anyone know how to record something onto your RAZR and then make it your ringtone? My brother did it a long time ago, but now neither of us can figure out how he did it. I can't do anything with my recordings except play them back.

is this the information you're looking for?

Make a RAZR Ringtone with iTunes

Use iTunes and Bluetooth to create your own ringtones for the Moto RAZR. It isn’t as hard as you think. Just use the right settings. When I used the wrong settings, the transfer failed when loading my phone. All of these instructions are for a Mac but if you follow along, I’m sure you will get it.

1- First you need to find what you want to use in your iTunes Library. Make a playlist and put your soon to be ringtones in it.

2- You’ll need to clip them to about 30 seconds long. This is about how long your phone will ring. No need to use the extra space with sound you won’t be able to hear. To do this just get info on your song and set the start and stop point in the options tab. Click OK and move on.

Make it Short

3- Next you need to set iTunes to convert your music to 22 khz and mono encoding. I used a lower bitrate to save space.

Make it Small

Let's review

4- Convert the songs to mp3 and find them in your Library. I used a smart playlist with recently added songs. I then dragged the song to my desktop. This made a copy so if anything went wrong I could just go back to iTunes.

Convert it

5- Now that you are to this stage you can go back to iTunes and set the in and out points on the original song back to normal. It’s easier to do this now while you are thinking about it. Your ringtone version should still be there. You can easily pick these out by looking at the bitrate which will likely be lower.

6- Send the audio files to your phone using a bluetooth connection and be sure to tell the phone to store them. I just use a D-Link USB adapter and it works great.

7- On your phone set the audio for one of your new tones and you should be good.

Hmmm... I didn't know you could do it that way, my brother said he did it before without anything on the computer, he just recorded something onto the phone and somehow made a recording into a ringtone. I think it was of himself talking or something.

That is probably what I'll have to do, though, if I can't figure this out!

I have my newphews laughing and screaming pick up the phone as my ringtone right now! Here's how you do it

hit Menu

Arrow right until you get to Get in Now section

choose Get Tunes and Tones

Click on Record New

ok to start recording Stop to stop recording

it will then be stored with the rest of your ring tones, typicall at the very end of the list

it will have a little microphone next to it and a bunch of numbers

Scroll down to it

click Options

Set as Ringtone

That should do it!

D, how do you transfer the songs to your computer? Do you have to have a special cord?

Collette, how do you get to the menu? I have like the main menu of options, but I don't see the Get it Now option. Is it under a submenu? Thanks!

you can transfer wirelessly (is that a word?) via bluetooth, but that's a paid service on verizon phones. i think.

the cable you'll need is a 5-pin mini USB cable.  it's going for about a dollar on e-bay

the get it now option is a verizon exclusive.  if you want a long, convoluted way of uploading ringtones for your verizon phone for free, let me know.

Ugh, I was afraid of that because I just tried and I don't have a "Get it now" option

looks like I'll be doing it through the computer after all

thanks everyone!
