I'm sorry Kitty. That is terrible and an invasion of your privacy. Who knows what else he read in your file. I would talk to your doctor. He/She should be understanding of this violation and know the consequences of the violation if they do not properly resolve it.
Are you sure that he broke privacy rules? I mean, I know they have your files and everything, but for example my doctor's office called today...and there had to be a legal way for her to get that information. I'm sure she had to look in my file, she didn't have it memorized of course.
I don't know, I mean... I might be weirded out, but I don't think I'd report him. If I was working at a desk somewhere and an ex boyfriend didn't even acknowledge me, I'd actually be really weirded out by that and I would try to get in touch with him. It would really upset me.
If he did something that invaded privacy rules, however, I can see wanting to report him.

It definitely violates HIPAA policies. It's different if they go in your file to get your number if they plan to call you for a doctor related thing. He went into my file for personal gain. He had no right to call me like that. He doesn't have my cell phone number for a reason!
I work in the medical field, and he he violated HIPAA. This is serious and it really depends on how far you want to take it. Without written approval I have no right to access my husband's or my mom's medial information, even though I have access to the information. Here is the reporting information you need:
