watched this last night, loved it. jake gyllenhall(sp?) is so hot in this movie. and jamie foxx is so not annoying in this. i usually don't like him, but i really thought he was great in this. i thought it was really interesting how they all started to go a little crazy from all the tension and anticipation for a war they never had to fight in. i really really really enjoyed this movie.
I enjoyed this movie, too. I think a lot of the critics missed the ball on this one. They were expecting a typical "war movie" with action and lots of intense battle. The point of the movie is that the soldiers went expecting a war and didn't get one. Also, Jake G. was quite nice to look at, especially when he ran around wearing nothing but a Santa hat.
This movie was great...but if you ever get a chance to read the book, you should. The book does such a great job of showing the ways in which the war really affects each character and the frustration from training and training and then spending weeks with no action.
I watched that last month, only because it was free from the library. I'm glad I did, because it's a verry good movie. I too expected it to be some macho-guy war movie, but it wasn't. The story seemed relevant, since it's a war that happened in my lifetime. Like Tashina said, it did a good job of portraying soldiers in a time of war, even if they don't go into battle.
On a side note: the guy who wrote the book went to my college (not at the same time as me though).

you know what i thought was funny, the guy who greeted the soldiers when they first got to the desert when they were all in the tent, has the same last name as my dad, and my grandfather and my grandfather was a really high up in the marines in the gulf war, so it is possible that could have been him. since the name isn't very common. kosinski. i got a chuckle out of that.
