I have been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome for about the past two years. Does anyone else have this? If so, I was hoping you could tell me what your treatment for it is. I have a prescription for Glucophage from an endocrinologist (which is about to run out), so I need to make an appointment with him. He's apparently quite known in the area and is doing all sorts of research (when I started going to him I had to sign a waiver that he could use me in his research, papers, etc) But, sometimes I feel like he cares a lot more about his own research agenda than, you know, the cysts in my ovaries. When I started on the Glucophage, he said that I would get my period within 3 months. (the fact that I hadn't had a period in about a year was what finally made me go into the dr for the diagnosis in the first place) But it never came, and never came, and I started on birth control just to tame my freakin' hormones. So now I'm taking both.
ANYWAY, I'm just wondering, if anyone else has this, how do you treat it? When I go in for my appointment with him in a month or two, I want to talk to him about other treatment options, or maybe even leaving him (I really hate that his research comes way before my concerns, and that he won't ever sit and talk to me about anything). The Glucophage never seemed to make any difference when I did take the full dose he prescribed, so finally after about a year I slowly dropped down to only 1/3 of the dose he prescribed, because when I was at the full dose I was throwing up like 10 times a day and had to watch my diet like a HAWK; still, if I eat too many carbs or grease and fat, my body is SURE to let me know. And I know that taking 1/3 of something that doesn't really work, isn't nearly as good as taking the full dose of something else that does work. But he won't even discuss any other treatments with me because of his own research agenda.
Suggestions?

I can't really help as far as treatment goes but.....
if you are uncomfortable with the dr. and feel that he does NOT have your best interest at heart and is more interested in his research... there is no reason to return to him but to get your file to transfer it to another doctor. Especially if he will not listen to you or take what you say seriously it is time to look for someone else

I know. I really am uncomfortable with him, but I don't see a whole lot of other treatments available except what he has me on, so I don't know what to do. I was hoping someone would have some wonder-treatment they could share with me, so I could leave my Dr with at least an aim or an idea of what to do next.
