on my way home from my new job, I would like to go to the gym. Do you think it's acceptable to change out of professional attire at my job and leave in gym clothes (I wear conservative gym clothes....pants, loose tees) while everyone else is leaving in professional attire. I really don't want to change at the gym. The gym is on my way home and I'm afraid if I stop home first, I won't want to go to the gym after I've been home (if that makes sense).
Thanks for any feedback.

i used to do this at my past two jobs that i had an actual office.
both places were pretty casual and pretty laid-back though.
*just don't be like that girl in that commercial who strips down to her sports bra and really short bike shorts in the elevator and then hops into a car with 2 mountain bikes on the top!
I don't see why this would be an issue. I do it sometimes. As long as you aren't prancing around in your gym clothes (which I know you wouldnt) I see it as completely normal.
I don't see a problem with it unless your gym clothes are tight or revealing and you don't want people to get offended. If so, try putting a running suit on over so you don't feel so self concious. They make really cute ones now days.
I don't think its a big deal either. My only suggestion would be to go out a less used exit when you are leaving. I used to walk with coworkers during lunch and we'd never walk through the main atrium in our walking clothes (again, they were conservative) because clients are walking through there and it may look unprofessional. We'd always go through an alternate exit/entrance. However, I work at my company HQ so I could run into the CEO in the elevator, so things may be different where you are.
I do it all the time. If I don't change at work the odds of me going to the gym or to workout are reduced substantially. Can you leave just 5 or 10 minutes after everyone else? Usually by the time I get changed, the majority of the masses have already gone on their merry way.

I totally thought about that commercial when I read this post!

does your gym have a locker room? why not change in there?
i know that sounds like the easy thing to do, but to be honest, i wear support hose (probably TMI) to prevent varicose veins since i am on my feet all the time when i work, so i don't like changing out of them when i go to the gym, which is rush hour at my gym. it's hard enough finding an empty locker so the thought of having my butt hanging out in front of 50 people (some of which i went to high school with) is not my thing. i know may be a prude, but i just don't like to change in front of so many people. i wish they had changing stalls, but all they have is bathroom stalls which are tiny.
i casually brought it up to one of the girls i worked with and she said no problem.
