Did anyone watch yesterday when Star quit & then today when Barbara Wawa gave her speech? Wow. I have to admit, I'm not a huge Star fan, but this was just AWFUL. I hate the way Star handled it - apparently taking everyone by surprise announcing that she was leaving. And today they put it out there that she wasn't leaving on her own accord, that she knew for months that her contract would not be renewed. Seems they were going to let her say whatever she wanted & they were going to back her. I am really glad Barbara just came out & said "too much is happened for us to act like nothing is wrong" - dang!
I know probably no one cares about this but me but wow. And I really don't like Rosie - she is just too obnoxious for me. I really don't know if I will watch when she gets there in September.

I'm not a big Star fan myself -- I think she's pretty full of herself and the whole greed/sponsorship thing with her wedding was really tacky.
I thought the reason Star was leaving was due to the View hiring Rosie after she made the public comments about Star's weight loss and how she was pooping soup, etc. (disgusting)
I think bringing Rosie on will be the death of the View - I don't think middle America closely identifies with an overweight lesbian (or maybe they do - but it doesn't seem evident to me) I know Rosie's show did ok before, but I think it's off the air for a reason. Maybe they thought the lesbian angle would somehow round out the show - I think it will just alienate thier current audience.

Wait - what happened? I missed it and I'm not a Star fan so I'd love all the juicy details!
I'd heard (via Yahoo) that she wasn't there anymore, but didn't care enough to even click the link and read the details. I don't watch the view, but I can't stand Star Jones. I agree with Detroit about Star's selfishness and her whole wedding extravaganza disaster.
I don't particularly like Rosie O'Donnell though. I don't mind people standing up and saying what they think and feel, but IMO Rosie's just a sneering big mouth with a major chip on her shoulder. So I don't think she's a good choice for the show either.

Creator Barbara Walters said she was "betrayed" by Star Jones Reynolds' surprise on-air announcement of her exit from the daytime talk show Tuesday. Reynolds said in a magazine interview she felt she was fired.
Either way, the "help wanted" sign is up again at the show, months after it was announced that Rosie O'Donnell was replacing Meredith Vieira in the fall.
Reynolds' exit had been rumored for months, intensifying Tuesday after reports on "Access Hollywood" and in the New York tabloids that an announcement would be coming soon.
Still, Walters said she was taken by complete surprise when Reynolds announced her departure after the first commercial break on Tuesday. The announcement had been planned for Thursday, she said.( Watch Jones' choked up announcement and what's next -- 5:45)
(Reynolds will appear on CNN's "Larry King Live" Thursday to talk about the changes.)
"I love Star and I was trying to do everything I possibly could -- up until this morning when I was betrayed -- to protect her," Walters told The Associated Press. Walters also said she wasn't aware until she got off the air of Reynolds' People magazine interview. Reynolds, one of the original cast members when the show started nine years ago, said: "I feel like I was fired."
That seems to be the case. Walters said ABC network chiefs had decided last fall not to renew Reynolds' contract because its research showed that Reynolds' dramatic weight loss and 2004 wedding to banker Al Reynolds had turned viewers off. Reynolds had been criticized for a Web site that promoted companies that donated items for the wedding party's gift bags.
"We tried to talk them out of it," Walters said, "and we tried to give Star time to redeem herself in the eyes of the audience, and the research just kept getting worse."
Reynolds' spokesman, Brad Zeifman, said the announcement had always been planned for this week. Because of all the speculation, Reynolds was compelled to tell viewers, he said.
He said he finds the notion that viewers were turned off by talk of her wedding "surprising," given that some of the top-rated shows in 2004 were related to her wedding and engagement. Reynolds' recent book in which she discussed her weight loss was a best-seller, he said.
Walters said Reynolds had known for several months that she would not be coming back, before Vieira's announcement in April that she was leaving.
"I would have loved for Star to have left and not said 'I was fired,' and not make it look like the program was somehow being cruel to her," she said.
O'Donnell's hiring had nothing to do with the decision, she said. That April announcement had led to widespread speculation over whether O'Donnell and Reynolds could co-exist. O'Donnell had made several caustic remarks about Reynolds, saying that it was dishonest for her to talk about losing more than 100 pounds through diet and exercise without talking about gastric bypass surgery.
On the show Tuesday, Reynolds told the audience that "The View" had decided to move in a new direction.
"I'm not sure what the future holds," she said. "But I'm absolutely sure who holds the future."
Comic Joy Behar looked like she was shocked.
"Who am I going to fight with?" Behar said.
Reynolds replied: "Something tells me you will have somebody to fight with."

i didn't see the announcement yesterday, but i saw Wawa's response today. WOW. so basically they're mad she announced it Tuseday instead of Thursday? or because she said she was fired? i mean isn't not renewing a contract being fired? so what's the deal? or am i missing something?
the whole thing just seems stupid. i don't see Rosie "saving" the show at all. i can't see it working very well because Rosie is used to having her own show and these ladies have enough trouble getting in a couple words without someone who is used to a one person show. when i watched the show, i enjoyed it for Elisabeth Hasselback's outfits, Joy's comedy, and Star putting her foot in her mouth time after time. i just don't see it being as entertaining.

I've only watched The View a few times, largely because I cannot stand Star Jones. She is so completely self absorbed, and I'm surprised that The View has kept her around this long. Seriously, is there anyone who thinks she is anything but annoying?
I'm not sure how Rosie will work out. Years and years ago, I thought her stand up comedy was really funny, and I even enjoyed her show on the rare occasion that I watched it. It just seems like whenver you hear anything from her now it is because she's pissed off about something.
So did anyone besides me and my friends gather around Larry King Live last night? I thought Star was trying her best to come across as the one wronged but I just didn't buy it. It especially irked me when she said she'd always been up front about her "medical intervention" w/r/t her weight loss. Bull. She never said that on the show and plus, a "medical intervention" isn't the same as coming right out and saying you had gastric bypass or the band thing.
All I can say is that she must have really pissed BW off for her to cut her out of the credits, say "then there were three," and have the big speech. Because most times people leave it's all we love each other, she'll be missed, etc., etc., etc.
Oh and I read somewhere that Debbie Mont... (can't spell it) was talking bad about Star on Good Day Live or whatever show she does. She was saying how Star acted like they were good friends while DM was on the show but as soon as DM was replaced Star acted like she didn't exist. Basically I think DM was saying Star deserved what she got. Don't know if it's true but this sure is a fun drama to watch unfold!
Blubirde-I too was sitting there watching Larry King and Star TRY to pretend like she is nice. She didn't ever say anything about her medical intervention. Did you notice too, how she said she had said on a previous Larry King that she had spoke of her "intervention" and then they showed a quick shot of her previous show and she was being tight lipped about how she lost weight! It was very quick, but it was funny. Debbie was talking about Star on tv that day. She said that they used to go on vacations and everything together and when she was fired Star wasn't anywhere to be found. She said she was very young at the time and that taught her alot about the business.
A funny story-Star was going to be on a local radio station to promote her book several months back. Well the dj's didn't like her much anyway and were afraid to go on live with her so they taped the interview. Before the interview started though they were somehow on 3-way with Star and her assistant. Star obviously didn't know anyone could hear her and she was screaming at her poor assistant. I mean she was totally letting this girl have it! Then the assistant came on and told the dj's to please not ask her about certain things (how she lost weight was one) or she would be in alot of trouble. Anyway, when they introduced Star her attitude completely turned around. She was all good morning Houston! I just loooooooove Houston. WTF!!! Little did she know the WHOLE thing was taped and when they played all of that together it made her look like a fool! I thought she was so rude and fake that I emailed her at the View. I told her that she should not treat people so rudely and that she was no better than her assistant. I also told her that she should appreciate what she has because one day it might be gone!! She should have listened!!!
