Clothes/accessories living up to their hype?

--Have you bought something that was highly anticipated or that you'd heard great things about, but you ended up being disappointed once you got it for yourself?

AND/OR......

--After hearing great things about an item or a brand, have you ordered it and loved it so much, you can only wonder why you waited so long?

In terms of disappointments, one thing that comes to mind are the C. Ronson wedges that a lot of us STers were really excited about, but ultimately were disappointed to find that they were really uncomfortable....

Also, for me, I had read quite a few Daily Candy-type articles about the Gustto bag and how gorgeous it was, so naturally when I received mine, the rusty metal accents and loose stitches were a huge disappointment!

On the plus side, I'm finding that I'm becoming a big fan of anything Ella Moss -- I can see why the line is so popular. Supersoft, drapey fabric -- count me in!

I think this is a great idea for a poll!

Dissapointments-Last year I bought a pair of R&R Scorpions, which was my first pair of designer denim and expensive. Within two weeks of buying them both of the buttons on the butt pockets fell off and yesterday (cue "taps") the crotch ripped. In comparison I've had Gap and Express jeans that have lasted years.

On the other hand I bought a pair of SFAM last year, which I had always resisted 'cause they seemed so trendy, but they turned out to be a really good basic comfy jean. To me they almost seem kind of classic now like a pair of Converse or Levis.

I'll try and think of more, I like this topic.

I bought a Tano last year but didn't like the leather at all.  It was shiny and very thin .  I returned it.

The Frye Saddle boots...yup, the ones I longed for and lusted after everytime someone mentioned them in their posts.  I finally bought them only to discover:

a) they look way butch...biker boots

b) I hated the leather

c)they looked rough and worn out on arrival

d)they were HUGE!!!

The AE sunshine dress did not live up to the hype for me - it looks sooooo cute on others, but makes me look like I'm wearing a sack.

Check it out

I saw this bag at anthro, and it was very non-substantial feeling, and there were loose threads. If I spent $275 on a canvas bag, I would expect more.

*Express editors. They look really bad on me. Remember those stretchy black boot-cut/flare pants a lot of use wore as our 'going out pants' in college (circa 1999)... that's what they look like on me. All I need is a 'funky' top and I'm a college freshman again.

*VS Ipex bras. They just don't fit and I don't think they're comfortable. However I LOVE the Very Sexy and Angels collections.

I've been disappointed in pretty much everything from banana republic.  the quality is great, but with a few exceptions, it just doesn't fit me.  It pooches in the hips and tries to flatten my bum.  Not a good look - and they keep tempting me with really cute things.

But, I really like J. Crew.  It's not trendy, but for basic tees and work clothing, the price is right and the quality is as good if not better than lots of department store brands.

Wicked, this cracked me up. As for the poll, I can't think of any major disappointments, but on the up side, I sure do love my botkier trigger. The leather is beautiful and rich, the hardware is nice, and the design straddles the line between funky and classic, which I like.

Though I like it, I'm a little disappointed in the quality of my Handmaid bag.  I've had it for 7 months or so and it's already got multiple spots where the finish is worn off on the leather, and I'm nice to my bags!  I would have expected more out of a $300+ bag .

I actually find that things that I want AND can afford don't usually live up to the hype, and I love it less once I've had it for awhile.  So I actually love very little of what I own.
