National anthem in spanish?

Let me say that I think it's really tacky. I think it's disrespectful and just a ploy to draw more attention to an already controversial topic. I also heard that it was a British producer that did this. It makes me wonder if this group is doing it to get more popular. (I don't know much about them). I think regardless of what your race (I'm Mexican by the way) you need to be repspectul of other countries/people/and cultures. Taking someone's national anthem that means so much to many Americans and changing it to fit someone else's culture is rude. Mexico has their own national anthem they don't need to borrow America's. Are they going to redo all the other coutries national anthem's too. That would only seem fair right? Let me also say that my feelings towards this are in no way an indication of how I feel about illegal immigrants rights or what should be done about them. This is just my opinion on the spanish national anthem.

I don't see why this is a big deal. If anything ticks me off about the national anthem, it's disrespect toward it. Having it in another language, as long as it is respectful, is fine by me. It bugs me more that people talk on their cell phones during the anthem than it does to have in in another language. We expect other countries to translate their signs and cater to our language barriers but then get mad when they try to sing our song in another language? I guess I just don't see what the fuss is all about. America is a melting pot and, yes, English is our language, but it's not like they're going to start playing the Spanish version during the Super Bowl or anything. The english version will always be the official one.

Actually...this was written about what they are supposed to do with it. I feel that is VERY disrespectful.

"A remix to be released in June will contain several lines in English that condemn U.S. immigration laws. Among them: "These kids have no parents, cause all of these mean laws ... let's not start a war with all these hard workers, they can't help where they were born."

My fear is also that some Olympian or something will request the Spanish version during ceremonies and actually be granted the request.

I actually don't expect other countries to cater to our language barrier. When I have gone to Mexico City, everything is in Spanish.

Ahh, gotcha. Well in that case, then, yeah, that's stupid. I hadn't heard that part about immigration, I thought it was just a translation. Now it just sounds like propaganda.

It makes me uncomfortable on many different points.

Let's not forget that there IS a faction of the Hispanic American population who believes that the southwestern portion of the US is rightfully theirs, like MEChA. Believe me, I am far from a paranoid right winger who thinks these people are out to take back their country (though some think it will happen someday unless we close the borders), but I have seen some of the MECha representatives interviewed on television and the opinions stated were stronger than the ones we're seeing in the mainstream.

Translating it or not (which I'm kind of having mixed feelings on) I just think it's wrong and horribly disrespectful to "remix" a country's national anthem. I mean, wtf? I can just imagine the shit that would go down if we remixed the French anthem. Or even the British one- then you wouldn't need to translate. Totally tacky.

I heard this yesterday and it is a totally different song than the National Anthem. I would never recognize it as the United States National Anthem. I think to change the National Anthem is like changing our American Flag.

Agreed. Who cares? I'm not going to sing it in Spanish. I'm not going to sing it at all actually but certainly not in Spanish. (more to do with my voice than any political statement.) If no one paid attention, no one would care.

Plus, didn't I read somewhere that the State Department had versions of the national nathem on Spanish on their website? And seriously - what difference does it make if it's sung in Spanish anyway? (Different story if the words are changed.)
