Update to 5 and a 1/2 Year Break Up Story

Hey guys,

Thanks for all of your help through this! I took your advice and kept myself busy, which really helped me stop thinking about the utter loneliness I was feeling.

But, things got a little complicated when one of the friends that I used to hang out with told me that there were rumors that my boyfriend had cheated on me, and that he's already seriously dating someone else. Well, that was a shock, so it hit me pretty hard. I confronted him in person about it about two weeks ago, and he admitted that he'd kissed another girl while we were dating, and that he's already intimate with someone else. At least he was honest about it. But after he told me that, I just couldn't see him the same way anymore. I'm not IN love with him anymore.

So, since then, I've been working out more, and doing most of my homework, and trying to go to as many concerts as possible. It's been nice just doing whatever I want.

Oh, and here's another surprise. I've been hanging out with a friend from school a lot lately. He's really nice, and he knows that I just got out of a serious relationship. He took me to the park and we had a picnic, then we went to a baseball game. We watch a lot of movies together, too. He's been a real gentleman, and it's nice to be treated so well! I finally see myself being able to be happy on my own, without my ex. And that feels so great!

So, basically, I know that I'll still be sad depending on the day, but my general outlook right now is positive. It's nice to be independent.

YAY!

Ugh. Sounds like your ex is a serial monogamist. My ex did that and it hurt a lot. I know where you're coming from. Luckily, it made it easier to get over because there was no hope for a rekindled romance. I'm glad you're going out and doing other things and realizing there is life post-breakup. Good for you!

No kidding!  I'm really impressed with the way you're handling this.  I'm glad to hear you're taking this well.

I'm so sorry about your break-up. I also have been in the situation where I am still in the I-don't-know-what-hit-me stage and the ex already has someone serious. I tend to date the serial-monogamy type and your ex seems to be that type. You are handling it with such a healthy and positive attitude. Your outlook will no doubt bring happiness into your life, whether it's with this new guy, someone else, or many someones. :)
