hey girls: As part of my preparations for moving overseas and being a SAHM with more time to cook, I made a list of food must-haves for the freezer, refrigerator and pantry. These are things that I personally love to eat or like to have on hand so that I can make quick meals and/or have snacks. I thought I'd post it here in case anyone is interested. Also, if you have any suggestion or would like to post about your faves I'd love to read 'em!
btw--rf=reduced fat; ff=fat free, tjs=trader joes and ww=weight watchers
Freezer
turkey meatballs (TJs)
gnocchi a la sorrentina (TJs)
Lean Cuisines
boneless skinless chicken breasts (uncooked)
ground turkey breast (uncooked)
mushroom risotto (TJs)
frozen pizza (Digiorno Pepperoni or Digiorno Harvest Wheat)
hey erin--yes, probably, which is why I am evaluating what i eat now. i know that there will be a commissary that is supposedly very nice, but i'm sure they won't have all of the things I'm used to. I will probably bring some of the things in the staples list myself; not sure about the rest. I will totally miss my must-haves from trader joes and my butter spray!!
hi irene--my husband and i (and our baby) are moving to cairo in july.

WHAT?!? Why!?! Why does it seem like everyone is moving away?!? Aww...well, I will miss you, even though you will most likely have internet and we will still be seeing you around. Just seems so far away.
Hey girls--i forgot to respond to this earlier but wanted to thank you for adding your lists. this was really interesting to read and I am going to incorporate some of the things listed to my list (like canned mushrooms-yum).

alb - you'll be surprised how much you can use canned mushrooms. My bf makes fun of me because I put them in everything. I use fresh mushrooms a lot too but for some reason I think I like canned even better, they seem to absorb taste when you add them to things, almost like tofu, if that makes any sense.
That's good to know! I bet they'd be great on chicken. What do you put them on? Is there a particular brand that you like?
I usually get the Green Giant kind and they're not really caned they're in a glass jar. I put them in omletes/eggs, quesadillas, rice, couscous, soup, chicken recipes, pasta dishes, sometimes I cook them with spinach and garlic for a side of spinach and mushrooms...see lots of possibilities.
