I have a mini that's about 2 years old, and I think the battery has finally crapped out. It goes from fully charged to completely drained in about 20 minutes. Does anyone know how much it costs to get the battery fixed/replaced? Can I take it to somewhere like Best Buy, or does it have to go back to an Apple store? Thanks!

if you don't have a warranty and send it to the apple store it's like $100. i would look on craigslist, i'm sure there are local people in your area that can fix it for less.

honestly i'm really disappointed with my mini.  i sent it back in september (if it's within a year you only pay s+h) to get the battery fixed. and it has recently started acting up again. i kind of want to buy a new one, but i'm just so disillusioned i don't want to drop all that money on something that's going to act up.

I didn't know if iPod mini batteries could be replaced. I was planing on purchasing a nano once it kicks the dust.

Mine is just over a year old and I'm afraid it's ready to die soon. It's doing the same as halleybirds...it stays charged for a little bit but not long enough.

Wow, I thought I had a fluke! So...

Giant BOOOO to Apple for two reasons:

a) making a shitty product that costs $200 and doesn't hold up

b) making a shitty product that costs $200 and doesn't hold up and that I now can't live without.

If you're willing to install it yourself, you can save a lot of money.

For example, you can buy a battery at www.ipodbattery.com for $29.00

yep, it sucks.  i have the third generation (i think) iPod...the first one that had all the problems and was involved in the class action.  so meanwhile, apple sends us this letter about the class action suit, telling us we can send out iPods back to have the battery replaced free of charge, or we can opt for a $50 apple gift card.  so my husband and i both sign up for the $50 GC because hubby's apple powerbook's battery is dead as well (hmm...perhaps apple doesn't do batteries well???).  so the class action claim forms were due at the end of september.  take a guess if we've received our GCs yet or not...

and yeah, my iPod only lasts about a half hour on a fully charged battery...
