we're looking to go to Mexico in June for about a week. Probably somewhere on the Pacific side... somewhere more quite/ less "spring break". Any reccomendations?
Has anyone been to Peurto Vallerta or Alcaulpolco? How are those?
oh, and how about tulum? we were looking last night and that look relatively cheap.
Puerto Vallarta is rocky-rocky beaches, rocky bottom when you get in the water...
When I was planning a trip to Mexico years ago the travel agent counciled strongly against Accapulco. She said it's dirty, not her favorite place to go.
I love Cabo San Lucas. It has gotten really built up over the last few years, but I still love it. I wouldn't recommend going out to the bars, because they tend to be very young, but some of them are an older crowd, like Giggling Marlin or Cabo Wabo. Avoid Squid Roe like the plague unless you want to be surrounded by trashed 18 yr. olds trying to have sex on the dance floor. Anyway, I love the beach atmosphere in Cabo, it has beautiful scenery, lots of fun beach stuff to do. If you don't want to do the bars, and don't care about being in the middle of it all, the Corridor might be a good option. The hotels are almost always all-inclusive, and usually have private stretches of beach. I do prefer the hotels on the beach in downtown Cabo, but those are something to look into. I really enjoyed the Pueblo Bonito on Playa Medano in Cabo when I stayed there, but Melia San Lucas is also gorgeous. I have tons more info on Cabo, and I've stayed in both budget and 5-star accomodations, so just ask if you have any questions! Oh, and in June Cabo shouldn't feel too spring break-y, unless you go to Squid Roe or a club like that.
more info on cabo would be great. We're not really into the whole bar/club thing... we want something quieter/ relaxing. Looking to spend somewhere around $1700 for 5 days.
3 of my co-workers have gone to puerto vallarta in the past year and all of them loved it and are planning trips back. They have all stayed at dreams puerto vallarta and have said it was wonderful and nicely priced since its a new resort and is trying to build up a customer base/name for themselves.
I absolutely love it there, BUT I don't think I would go in June. The cabanas are rustic (only one, Ana y Jose, has air conditioning), and I have heard it gets REALLY hot there from June - September. It might be miserable without A/C.
Have you thought about Playa del Carmen? A friend of mine went there in June for a week (she's in her late 20s) and said she didn't see any spring breakers. There were people at the bars in town, but she said they definitely seemed older.
This is my favorite web site for dreaming about where to go in Mexico:
We used them to book both our stays in Tulum and at Ceiba Del Mar. I would recommend CDM, but it apparently got destroyed by Hurricane Wilma. That surprised me, because we did not see any damage in Playa or Tulum during our last trip.
I heard Cancun and south were wrecked from the Hurricane last season. You may want to investigate the damaged areas before booking anything.
Everything south of Cancun/Puerto Morales is completely fine. Amazingly, we didn't see one sign of damage when we went two months after Wilma. The different world website lists what hotels are open and what's not.
