I wanted to share some of the pictures from my trip to Bombay (Mumbai) India! There are a ton here. It was amazing...the fabrics, and colors were breathtaking. I bought a few sarees just because the material was so nice. I also got quite a few pashmina and wool shawls. It's hard to describe this city. In some ways it's a big city just like New York but there are so many areas overcrowded and poor it was amazing to see a saree shop with white marble floors and countertops and then right outside people living in tents made of bamboo and tarps.
These pictures were taken by my boyfriend (well technically exboyfriend but I won't get into that here). He did an amazing job capturing the feel of India...enjoy!
Wow! Those pics are amazing. He is a wonderful photographer. It looks like quite a special trip you took. Not one you will forget. What were the people like? Were they friendly and open to tourists?
Incredible. This is on my list of places to go as well. Ok, here is my silly question- I know I asked Maddie about some of the clothing rules when she went - it just fascinates me. The women seem to have on pants & such under those long dresses (saris?) & in some cases a scarf / pashima type item over their head - do they have to dress that way or is that generally the "style" for lack of a better word.
I also can't get over how many people are walking on the streets & the number of bicycles!
Those are beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing.

The women are wearing "Salwar-khameez" or "punjabi" and its a long loose tunic like top and loose pants kind of narrower at the ankles along with a long scarf - this is the normal dress of women in the north but is prevalent all over India. Older women tend to wear sarees only. The middle generation moved to "salwar" but now the youngest generation wears all the western clothes.
Its interesting to notice that the street and market scenes still have most of the women wearing traditional clothes.

Thanks for the info - it's so interesting! I just wonder if a 20 something girl that lived there came to the US & went shopping at BR or Anthro, could they buy & wear, say, a calf length skirt, tank, & flip flops when they returned home (or even while here for that matter) or would that be disrespectful? It seems some of the tourists have on tees & cargo & such so I wondered if my above scenario would ever happen. I have to think "no" but I'm curious.

Yes absolutely. That is the crazy thing about India! If you go to any of the malls or newer shopping districts and areas - young people dress just like youngsters at the mall here! Of course with an Indian twist :>
cool photos, thanks for sharing. some of them remind me a little of Bangkok. your ex bf should enter this photo in a travel photo contest or something - i love how the background is all hazy and brown and dusty, and then there's that pop of color with the man carrying the balloons in the forground:
