Imogen Heap is awesome! So I'd definitely recommend that!
If you want Coldplay - don't buy it or download it - I can burn you a copy of the newest CD and possibly the one before that if you want it. Just let me know.
Also, have you ever heard Zero 7? I can copy that disc for you as well, and Sia, one of the singers from Zero 7 has a solo album that is awesome. B just gave me it for Valentine's Day. If you're interested PM me!
of the cd's you listed i own the postal service, rilo kiley (i'm assuming you mean the most recent one more adventurous), and imogen heap. i also have the first two coldplay albums, but not the most recent one.
of the three my favorite is probably imogen heap, and i would recommend it. the other albums aren't bad, and pretty good if you're going to just listen to them straight through on repeat.
i usually leave my ipod on shuffle and like to hear how songs on an album sound when they have to stand alone. it helps me better evaluate individual songs, and figure out which ones i want to use on mixes. when i listen to the postal service album in that context i don't like it as much. again it's not that it's bad at all, but i wind up being annoyed by the lyrics. and find them over-earnest in a way that's not endearing, but reminds me of a hallmark card, but written by someone who was "indie." but that's just my humble opinion.
with the rilo kiley album, nothing really stands out for me. again, it's not a bad album, but if you were to ask me to name tracks, i couldn't b/c nothing was really memorable.
sorry for the long post, but i just wanted to provide you with some context so you could figure out whether to listen to, or completely disregard my opinion.
ShopChicago--yes, burn all four for me! I can give you blank discs too.
Honey--thanks for your recs. I haven't listened to a lot of The Postal Service, but I got a similar impression of them as you described. The only reason I was interested in them is because I really like The Shins and someone told me if I liked them, I might like The Postal Service as well (though he did say they weren't as good). I was kinda sad to read your Rilo Kiley opinion though--the only song I know is "Portions for Foxes," and I love it so much, I have to listen to it at least once daily. I won't totally veto it, but maybe I will hold off awhile on it.
i agree with the imogen heap stuff. did you guys hear her yesterday on the world cafe on public radio? it was awesome. and frou frou is her band. i haven't heard it but it's something to keep in mind if you love imogen heap.

I love Tegan and Sara. I have So Jealous and If It Was You and there are great songs on both CDs. I have to say I am interested in hearing Imogen Heap just because that is a cool name.

imogen heap is *sorta* tori amos. girl with piano and nothing else kind of stuff. but it's much more synthesized. her "piano" is actually just a huge synthesizer, but her voice is similar to tori amos. unless you are a fan of tori i would say don't buy the cd until you sample some songs. it's definitely something you love or hate right off the bat.
oh, just wanted to add that sinead lohan is really good too!
and you can go to cduniverse and listen to snippets of songs which is always handy.
