Also when I get my nails or pedicure done, I never leave a tip, am I suppose to????
I would say absolutely. They are providing a service to you - they are actually working on you. I get artifical gel nails, so it costs me about $20 a fill and I always tip about $6.
For my hair, it depends. Normally, I got and get a haircut/highlights & lowlights all at once, so my bill is about $110 - I always tip her $20.
i probably the best customer around. i will always leave at least 20% for an average waitress. if they were really good ive been known to leave a lot more. and if its someplace i go alot, i will sometimes up 50%. at the noodle house i go to, the big bowl of noodles is 5 bucks, but i leave a ten cause they are just that awesome.
my hairstylist in pittsburgh that i love gets a $25 tip on a $35 haircut.
a $10 tip on a $60-80 hair cut is pretty low. that's only 12%-16%.
i feel absolutely that you should reward good service whenenver possible. and by tipping well, you can only ensure that you will recieve good service in the future. by not tipping, you are screwing yourself the next time you come in.
and please...tip the poor mani/pedi people.

Aw man now I feel like a big ol' cheapo!!!!!!!! Okay, now here is another question: when I get my nails or feet done. My manacuirist always has me write the check in her name, so I am assuming she is getting the full amount. So do I still tip her. Sorry for the questions, I just want to make sure for the future I do my hairstylist and manacurist right next time!

there are some people who say that if the person who provides the service is the owner, then you shouldn't tip her. however, i say you still tip her (and i tip 20% like the others on all services). you have to remember that at the end of the day, she pays the water, electric, for the products used on you, rent, etc.
i don't know your situation- but perhaps your manicurist is a booth-renter (or independant) where she actually rents her space for a fee per day or monthly? that is why she may have you write a check directly to her name instead of the salon.
in any case, i still say a 20% tip is what they should get. at the very least!

where I work,if the check gets made out to the salon, the stylist/tech is only going to recieve a % of the money(cause they are using the salon's products)-you'll have to tell them,ok 20 for the mani, and 5 for the tip, that way it'll all go to the right person. If its made out to the individual, she should be getting it all. more often then not,we pay booth rent, which means after a set amount of money to be payed every week/month for space and name, everything we make is profit.
IMO,Im very thankful to recieve any tip, cause alot of times, people wont. Espically when you think they would, like for wedding hair,or prom stuff. Its very nice to get that bit extra, and it kinda says, hey, she really likes what I did. You dont HAVE to tip,but you'll definatley be remembered!
