My mom has a mac i book. She is not very computer savy, to say the least. She does not know if it has a cd burner or not. It does play cd's. I am a PC girl, so it is really hard to walk her through it on the phone, because I am not familiar with macs. Any tips on where to have her look. TIA

Tell her to open Itunes. She can create playlists from her library which allow her to burn the cd. Insert the blank cd and click on the burn disk button on the top right corner of the playlist page and viola!

HTH!

I have an ibook & I did this on mine. It said CD burner or software not found. So I'm thinking if she doesn't she'll know really quickly.

Thanks, I will try that. I was hoping that there was a place that would give details about the CD drive. On a PC you can go to my computer and look at the drives. She is kinda slow on the computer and If she is going to try to burn a cd, which I doubt she has any rw cds, I could be on the phone for over an hour.

Well, does she have OSX? You can tell her to click on the apple in her upper left corner & a menu will come up that says "about this mac" - looks like the CD burning option is only available if it's OSX or higher, so if she doesn't have that she definately can't burn.

I'll see if I can find some "help" - my DH is on mac forums all the time - I'll ask him when he wakes up (sleeping in on a sunday)

ETA: Another quick thing to test her system - if you click on the apple & go to the same place, "about this mac" then click on "more info" it will give her a system profiler. At the top it says "contents" & lists the hardware. In that list it says "disc burning". I do have OSX but my system is not set up to burn CDs so mine says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly." If that is the case she can't burn CDs. I have no idea what it says if she has a CD burner, but it should be pretty self explanatory - the mac help is actually helpful. Hope that helps!!!!!!
