I am really low maintenance when it comes to stuff like this & I rarely go for professional manicures or pedicures. I have been to a few places in Dallas but all far from my house & I'd like to find something closer (real "dallas" is 30 - 45 minutes). I'm really skepical because of all the yucky news reports on the spa chairs & such, but i SERIOUSLY need a pedicure.
When I was in BR I went to all kinds of fancy spas & quite frankly got the best pedicure ever at a hole in the wall place next to a daquari shop in a strip mall, as unromantic as that sounds. But I really need a heel shaving & such & I just find the "fancy" places aren't that great about it, plus it costs more - which I still don't understand. (sorry if that is tmi)
My question is - how do I find a decent pedicure person that won't cause disease on my legs??? I can't ask friends really because everyone I know here either lives far away or doesn't go do this type of thing either. I'm really tempted to just go try out the place in the mall or something. Suggestions? opinions?
Local girls, I'll go to lewisville or carrollton or frisco or plano, somewhere that's somewhat close to me.....my hair salon is also in dallas proper so that's not an option for the same driving reasons...

laken, where do you live? i love my place in las colinas but that may be too far for you, i guess - i can find out some recs though closer to where you are specifically!
When you say heal shaving, do you mean actually taking that razor thing and shaving off skin? That's illegal in many states so don't go anywhere that does that! I'd go somewhere where there is no whirlpool tub thingy which will be hard to find. I'd call around. I also only go to salons that use O.P.I products, which to me says that they pay a little more for quality.
Also, when I called around to find a place, I crossed off places where they didn't speak English well. Nothing against them, but for me, it's hard to say what I want and don't want, and have them understand me with that language barrier. hth!

I'm in The Colony.
Jen, I've seen the shaving tool I'm talking about in Walmart so I'm pretty sure it's not what you're thinking of that's illegal. But it doesn't seem like something I would want to do to myself. Good tip with the OPI

It took me FOREVER to find a mani/pedi place I liked. I can't afford to go to the fancy places, and frankly, I've never found the quality to be better than cheapo places and sometimes it's worse. Usually it's a better "spa" experience but so what? I want my nails done on a regular basis and I don't need to wear a white robe for that.
I just had to go to a bunch of different places until I found one I liked. I also asked random people on the street (no lie!) where they got their nails done, if they had a good pedi or mani.
As for the shaving tool, I bought one and do it myself. I don't do it often, of course, because I don't want to have raw feet. But it's not difficult and it's fairly simple to do at home. I usually give myself a pedi about once a month (and keep up polish in between) and I use it then. Speaking of which, I could really use a go at it right now... maybe next week's project?
