Here's her response. If it's true, that that really is crappy that the paparazzi made her feel unsafe, but at the same time, wouldn't you hand the kid to the bodyguard and have him put the kid in the car seat while you were driving away? She's an idiot.

On Monday, photos surfaced of Britney Spears driving her SUV in Malibu with her son, Sean Preston, sitting on her lap behind the wheel. The pictures raised obvious questions because her young son was not in a car seat.
A source close to Spears explains that the singer drove to Starbucks with her bodyguard in the passenger seat and son Sean in his car seat in the back. When the bodyguard went into the store to get the drinks, Spears took Sean out of his car seat and held him in her lap while she waited. Photographers approached the car, says the source, and became aggressive. Once her bodyguard climbed back into the car, Spears drove away while still holding her son.
Spears explains her actions in an exclusive statement to People magazine:
"Today I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby. Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media. I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

i know that's her excuse, but i'm sorry to me that looks like child endangerment.

Honestly, I would not be surprised in the least if she really was driving w/him in her lap. This is Britney - she isn't known for her wise decision making - hello Kevin Federline?!
There was a picture of her when he was first born and she was holding him in the back seat whicl someone else was driving. A child place is in a car seat in the car, not in your lap or your arms. You love your child somuch that if you get into a car accident he'll be our own personal airbag. That's BS.

for those of you who still haven't seen the pics, there is one posted on the superficial. the ones on rosiedemario.com were taken down.
she doesn't look all that upset and fleeing for her life in this pic. and her bodyguard doesn't look all that concerned either. she is so stupid. i can't believe she is a celebrity. she has no talent for singing or acting snf she is about as smart as a can of beans.
My pediatricain said it is more important for a child to ride in a carseat than to go to all of their first year checkups and immunizations- shes an idiot not ready to be a mom.
I haven't seen the photos, but that is a rediculous excuse IMO. The paparazzi may be annoying, but having them standing outsite of her parked car taking pictures is not "putting the baby in harms way." Especially not the the degree that driving with the baby in your lap is the best option. I'm sure the bodygaurd could have handled things while she took the three minutes it takes to strap the baby into his seat.
I just saw that child protective services is looking into this because the papparazi is coming out calling BS that they were not being aggressive & there are witnesses that agree - do you think that's true?

I seriously doubt that the paparazzi were chasing her or anything. I mean, she's smiling in the last pic and she has the windows rolled down. If you're afraid for your safety or your child's safety, then you don't drive away with the windows rolled down. Also, her "bodyguard" (who is obviously fantastic at his job, since Brit apparently doesn't feel safe ) doesn't seem too terribly concerned--he's on his cell phone!
IMO, Britney's just an idiot and doesn't know better. I think Child Protective Services are indeed after her and they should be. Driving with your child unrestrained is totally illegal. It puts the child in danger, obviously, but I would think if the child starts thrashing around or crying, then that's going to be distracting for the driver too, which would increase the risk of an accident. I doubt Britney will face charges or anything like that, as much as I wish she would, but I think she'll get reprimanded and obviously the public is tearing her to shreds over this right now. It was on the Today Show this morning, for heaven's sake!
did anyone see the interview of brittany on the news last night? i missed it and was curious as to what she had to say. it is aout time that CPS decided to do something. it's like they don't bother with celebrities because they have money no matter how unfit they are to raise children. case in point, brittany spears and micheal jackson.
