Just wondering if everyone does their own pedicures or if they go to a salon. I've never gotten them done at a salon/nail place because I'm paranoid about dirty tools.

I came, I saw, I did a little shopping.
at the spa. i don't go to a "nail" salon... i get mine done at one of the local salon & spa deals. i have the best nail tech evah! she rocks!
i only really go every month from May-August/September... i usually just try to maintain throughout the winter since i am not showing them off in cute sandals then!
I do my own most of the time to save money, but I'll treat myself a few times a year and have a pedicure. I looooooooooooooooooooooove them! (But it's really embarrassing when they have to get the roto-tool sander out to work on my calluses. )
Spa, not a nail salon, usually (terrified of cleanliness issues). But I live in a small town now and no one does it well. The last place I went seriously tried to do it without a bottom coat or top coat. Uh, wth? And they still charge $50, like we're in the city. But they're so sloppy and inept - the lines are all over the place. But I cannot do it myself. It just doesn't work and I love the pampering. So I've compromised by watching them like a hawk and making them do it over if it isn't right. Real charming, of course, but still better than paying for crappy-looking pedicures.
I've NEVER had a bottom coat done and I've been getting my nails done since I was 15. I do always get topcoats though, so that's a little odd. My advice: Just stay away from any salon that uses the whirlpool foot soaks. They are like a Holiday Inn for bacteria and so gross. Go to a place that uses a basin or something-much more sanitary.
i'm about 70/30 nail shop/home. i'm really bad at doing my own nails, so i try to get in to the nail place, but sometimes it's unavoidable if you can't get an appointment and really need to wear sandals!

Seriously? It looks so much less smooth and the color isn't true. Of course, I think basically anything that differs from the way my favorite salon did it back home will always be wrong to me. Isn't it funny how that works?
