We always laugh about the Pet Shop Boy's "One Night In Bangkok" and Camper Von Beethovan's "Take the Skin Heads Bowling" but the last gained renewed recognition with Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine".
Little Black Back Pack - Stroke 9 You Gotta Be - Des'ree (I think she might've had more, but I only know this one) Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground Sway - Bic Runga Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundations
And my ultimate one hit wonder... You Get What You Give - The New Radicals
Guess he's more of a "two-hit wonder), but lately I've had Terence Trent D'arby stuck in my head. I love the songs, "Wishing Well" and "Sign Your Name". He has such a sexy voice. Where did he go???
Hot Hot Hot - by Buster Pointdexter. Because he was in the New York Dolls and I think it's funny how he went from being a drag dressing punk rock pioneer to a one hit wonder :)
I think The Verve is actually still a (relatively) successful band overseas. When I was in Australia, I heard their songs everywhere.
If you like "Bittersweet Symphony", you should download their song "The Drugs Don't Work"--so good. Ben Harper did a cover of it too and both versions are great.
You Gotta Be - Des'ree (I think she might've had more, but I only know this one)
She's a one-hit wonder here, but overseas she's been able to maintain a successful career overseas. Love her.
I believe Gabrielle is a one hit wonder in the US with "Dreams". I adore this song. She is from the UK and has sustained a career up until very recently.
Tracy Chapman is a two-hit wonder (Give Me One Reason was a #1), but I LOVE "Fast Car"
I love all the songs listed, though I have a special place in my hear for Build Me Uo Buttercup and You Get What You Give. Although with New Radicals, Gregg Alexander has gone on to producing and every song he does sounds pretty damn close to New Radicals. In a way, he didn't go away for a long time. Santana/Michelle Branch's "Game of Love" comes to mind instantly.
I can't think of too many artists with just one song that I like (e.g. I love lots of Devo songs) although I guess a lot of them just had one hit single. The only one which comes to mind right now is that Milla Jovovich song which I have a soft spot for.
