Okay, so I live in an apartment and the plumbing sucks. Our toliets always clog and when I take a shower, by the end of it, I'm standing in a foot of water which totally grosses me out. The landlords been over to fix it a few times, but it happens almost everytime, so we can't really call him everytime we go to the bathroom or shower....So, we've tried drano and plunging and it's really getting annoying. Is there anything else we can do to stop this? The people next to us have the same problems so I'm assuming it's just the pipes. Does this happen to anyone else? Any tips or ideas? Those of you who don't live in apartments-rejoice!
we were having a problem like this for awhile in our upstairs bathroom. i never called a plumber, because i'm pretty sure my husband was throwing soap shards down the drain when the bar got too small. do you shed a lot of hair? or shave your legs a lot? i think sometimes that can clog the drain...the upstairs bathroom seems to be fixed, but the downstairs one i know won't be...we were told when we looked at the house it had a "slow drain" and takes FOREVER. maybe you can tell your landlord since this has happened repeatedly, maybe they could get this looked into by a plumber?
Do you think the pipes might be frozen? Also fwiw I had a clogged shower(hair) and Draino didn't work at all, but then I used liquid plum-r and it worked like a charm.
Has the landlord taken off the shower drain cover and manually cleared it? We've had to do that with the tub drain as well as the bathroom sink drain - apparently I shed more than your average sasquatch .

Jen... Im so glad you posted this... Im having the EXACT same problem in my apt. with my shower drain. It is so annoying to be standing in a bath of water by the end of my shower... and I don't know what to do. Ive tried taking off the drain cover, but i can't figure out how to get it off. Err.... I feel your frustration.

I have used the gel drain de-clogger, I think it is liquid plum-r. I used the whole bottle in the tub drain and left it for much longer than the bottle states. A couple of hours I think, and it worked really well.
I agree w/ Dizzy about the boiling water. I've lived in a lot of old apartment buildings, and the last one had a horrible clogging problem. I tried everything and finally I started boiling water and using that after the Draino.
Here's a gross story about plunging tubs. In one apartment I lived in, we always had drain problems. My next door neighbor plunged his tub, which worked great for him. Meanwhile, my tub filled up with like a foot of brown, putrid sludge. And my landlord didn't return my call for 2 days! Barf!
