I applied for assistant buyer position (here in my company) in September (when I came back from maternity leave), and I never heard back from them. Last week, I saw another assistant buyer position open up in another division of my company. I applied, and went for the interview yesterday. HR called me up today and told me I got the job, and a nice little raise to go along with it!
Just wanted to share my good news, thank you girls for listening to me vent, especially when I was going through the tough times during my pregnancy. Dizzy - thank you so much for your advice.
that's fabulous, Karina! what category will you be working in? I was an assistant buyer for women's plus and maternity for the former world's largest retailer at one time...

detroit, i'll be doing sports/electronics/seasonal goods/books i'm not at an apparel company, i work for a toy retailer. how did you like being an asst buyer? thanks for all the well wishes, girls :)
I liked it, although I didn't do it too long - I left for an advertising/marketing position. There is a lot of record keeping - purchase details, advertising schedules, etc., but in my position, my boss would ask my opinion on what to buy or not, and I was able to select items to feature in ads. I also got my hands on lots of samples working in the women's buying department - they did a lot of knock-offs, so there would be a lot of designer clothes that the design department would use to create patterns, etc. that we could eventually get our hands on.
your category sounds fun, though! you'll have to tell us about it when you get acclimated...
