I know I'll listen to a variety of stuff, but I reach for my electronica stuff 90% of the time (mostly happy hardcore or trance).

Also want to see if ANYone else listens to electronica on here (so hard to find, honestly)

So, how about you guys?

I voted alternative I guess. I listen to "indie" music (though I think that label is possibly the douchiest thing ever). I lean towards alt-countryish, organic sounding stuff though. I also listen to a lot of older stuff too. The closest I get to electronica is Ratatat.

I voted alternative but that might be off a little.  I guess it could be alternative/pop maybe.  I love David Gray, John Mayer,Maroon 5,keene, kelly clarkson...all kinds of music really.

I'm also a HUGE fan of reggae.  Of course I love Bob Marley but I also love Beres Hammond, Beanie Man, Barrington Levy, Morgan Heritage and a lot more.

Esquiress:  Do you have specific DJ's that you like, or what genre (trance, happy hardcore, house, techno, etc.) do you like?

Yay!  Another person that listens to it!

I listen to the di.fm channels through iTunes radio ALL the time at work; I've become seriously addicted to happy hardcore in the last year...Just downloaded a new mix that totally rocks!

My favorite has always been country but I like all types of music.

ETA: A close second would be cheesy 90s pop.

i wish i could articulate what exactly i like but i only remember bits and pieces of lyrics from all the songs!  i think i like trance most but then again i don't know how happy hardcore is defined.

and i know this is lame but let me type some lyrics of songs i love, maybe you will know them?

"lady, keep me tonight, 'cause my feelings are so right"  ok those probably aren't even the real lyrics but i love that song!

and what about "you keep on bouncing like a yo-yo, let it all go"  actually i think that song is called romeo by basement jaxx.

ugh, i swear i am huge fan i just don't know what the songs are called/artist names.  but i'm listening to this new internet radio station right now called mw1live.com, jury's still out but so far i like it.

could you name artists and songs you like and i could listen and see if they match up?

but  i think i'm with maddie, i'm mostly an indie sortof girl, and lately especially have been leaning toward the alt-country side of the scene (wilco etc)

Sure!

For my trance/vocal trance stuff, I love Darude and DJ Doboy (he's easy to find on illegal download programs like Limewire.  Or you can go to his site and pay him for an actual CD-www.djdoboy.com).

One of my current trance faves is called "Nights In Palma" by Wells & Fargo.  iTunes has it if you want to sample it.

For happy hardcore, I have a huge list.  Unfortunately, most of the DJ's I like only mix for the di.fm channel and don't have samples anywhere or CD's to buy.  I highly suggest listening to the Happy Hardcore channel on that, either through the website or iTunes radio.  Favorites on the di.fm channel are DJ Myers, DJ Bluecore, DJ Silver, etc.  DJ Silver actually has some CD's out.

Happy hardcore is basically super sped up stuff.  It's really bouncy and really fast.  A lot of my faves sound like trance, but super sped up (This might actually be Trancecore at this point).

Scott Brown is one of my favorite happy hardcore DJ's; Here's 2 links to song clips.  Both are on my favorites list:

Overall, this is a really good site for defining the different electronica genres, and includes music samples of each :

The di.fm website is this, in case you want to try out their different internet stations:

I answered rock, i'm basically (sort of) stuck in the 90's. I love Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Deftones, Tool, Faith No More. I also love indie bands Cave In, No Knife and Piebald (among many others).

Oh and I almost forgot ... THE PIXIES!!

I love eighties music and I love Billy Joel!

I also love Stevie Wonder (his older stuff).

I like jazz, but I don't really know how to evolve with it. I have a single John Coltrane album that I love, but I don't really know where to take it from there.

(and I think Nirvana is the most over-rated band in the history of music)

I'm open to almost anything, as long as it has a nice beat, but mostly:

  • R&B
  • SOME Rap, minus all the cursing, so unattractive
  • Old School
  • Some Jazz & Blues

i voted other cause my own personal taste runs toward girl and guitar, girl and piano, girl and whatever....imogean heap, tori, ani, pj harvy, l7, and alicia keyes but i also love chris isaak, lyle lovett. i also am in love with willie nelson. those are just a few of the cd's that i own. however, my bf has around 700 cd's or so, so i listen to his stuff more because i only have about 25 or so. his collection runs to underground rap and hip hop and real reggae. he's gotten me turned onto jean grae (awesome awesome female rapper), the maroons, lateef and the chiefs, lyrics born, and jurassic 5. oh...and i almost forget my future husband, mos def. oh, those cheekbones.

bwah! that's too funny..

the short answer is like anything with a good beat. i listen to a lot of different kinds of music, and a lot of it is hip-hop. however i'm not really a fan of the more poppy hip-hop like nelly.

i also like a lot of bands from the uk, mainly b/c they make good, catchy dance rock. my current fave is the artic monkeys, but i also really like kasabian and franz ferdinand. and radiohead is one of my all time favorite groups.

CarrieS - I love electronica!  I like mostly house stuff, but a little bit of everything else thrown in.  Although I'm not the hugest fan of a lot of trance, I like music I can dance to!  I actually was at a club in Ibiza a few years ago where Paul Oakenfold was DJing...so awesome.  Actually, the club is called Pacha and my avatar is their logo (the double cherries)...how big of a dork am I?

Just looking at my iTunes library...Zero7 is good (a little trancey actually), BT, and of course Darude's always good...oh, I really love Spiller.  Basically I'm a eurotrash club kid trapped in the late 90s.   Probably my all time favorite song is Jaguar by DJ Rolando.  I buy a lot of the Ministry of Sound compilations, which can be a little overly mainstream, but there's always something good in there.  Oh, I also like the Hotel Costes compilations.

P.S. My husband is into happy hardcore...and stuff like Crystal Method, Prodigy, etc.

Those iTunes radio stations are a god-send, aren't they?
