Does anyone know anything about how one can get into a career as a model-maker? As in, a person who makes prototypes of products prior to manufacturing - like electronics like IPods or whatever?
I know this is totally random and I don't know much about it, but ANY information is much appreciated! TIA!

my bachelor's degree is in Industrial Design - typically, it's industrial designers that create models - or there are "model makers" that will create models from the designer's drawings... it's dirty work - you need to know how to work with wood, plastics, bondo, paint, foam, etc. But you are not designing, you are simply creating 3D from 2D.
If you want to make models from drawings you could probably approach some companies that would have model making facilities. What those companies might be in your area, I have no idea... If you are in Ohio, the majority of industrial design happens there - some of the ID houses have model makers...
