Why don't you try a lavendar or, better yet, a purplish-gray that is pale but will accent your accessories?

I don't know if taupe will look good w/ your couches, but I guess it depends on the shade you choose. Let me see if I can find some color samples to post......

I agree with MissMee, a purplish-gray would look great with the charcoal and the chocolate brown, as well as the purple accents in the room.

I know your first instinct is to go with a neutral (especially in a room that's as important as a living room), but my experience has been that if you just try something bolder, it will pay off. Besides, it's just paint -- the materials aren't very expensive, and if you hate it, you can just paint over it! Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! I guess I was leaning toward a more neutral color because I live in a townhome and so my living room flows into the dining room, which flows into the kitchen.. and I wanted a color that would match all three rooms. I really like the colors you posted though.. so I will pick up some swatches and see how it goes..
