those tall bundles of branches- i saw two people come on the subway with them- one was natural colored, the other was red, and they were tall- maybe 5 ft tall. Very pretty. i've seen people have branches in their house and i want some too!
I am assuming here but, I think you may be speaking of curly willow{natural} and dogwood branches { in red}.If your in a large city maybe you have a floral market that if open to the public. Or you can go to a floral shop and they will order them for you. Make sure you specify tall branches, they also sell short curly willow tips and dogwood brances in 3fts lenghts. HTH

damn girl-you're probably right! they coulda been those branches:
any more suggestions on:
-other branches sold like this
- what to do with them
-about how much they cost
-places to find them in NYC?
i love branches. i just realized this ... thinking hmm...the red looks like coral colored, the curly willow looks like coral shaped... totally didn't realize that til now.
Well, some of the things that I have used the curly willow for{ it is a real staple in contemporary floral design}
Looks great arranged in any tall vase : especially oriental containers, If the vase is not heavy enough to support the branches just add rock, marbles, even sand.
Look great left in small bundles and lying across the top of a tall cabinet- crisscross two small ones so both ends have the curly ends at both sides.
For xmas you can put branches in a gold , silver, or other festive container. Keep bundled, drop into container and add rock to keep stable. Wrap tightly with white lights.. another thing I have done is to before you put lights on spray branches with adhesive spray and add irridescent dust. This gives a real snowy, glimmery look.
When I make tropical Arrangements I wrap the shorter branches around my arm and then insert them into a clear glass vase- they look so exotic branching under water. They are very pliable.
I have sprayed curly willow every color imaginable to fit the decor, color scheme, occassion for a customer. It is very versatile.
For dogwood.
Also looks great in tall vases done in the same manner as the above. It is not pliable - very straight and tougher material. We get this in more for the holidays - it looks great in fall as well as winter types of arrangements.
other types of tall branches: Bamboo, cherry, and apricot.
Pricing- per bundle: curly willow of the tall variety- from 15.00- 20.00. If you leave these branches in water they will sprout green leaves at tips!
dogwood per bundle- 10.00- 15.00.
Bamboos can run quite expensive- 20.00+
Cherry and apricot is seasonal starting around beginning of march.
I live in California- dont know much about New York area. Let me know what your thinking of doing with them and I will try to help. HTH:
Pier 1 usually has that sort of thing. You can also try the flower district in Manhattan. It's mainly on 28th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway. A lot of the stores are wholesale only but I'm sure there must be retail places there too.

you know- they probably did get them there- they got on the subway at 34 st./6 ave.
Yup. I have some that I got at Pier 1 awhile ago. They didn't have any colored ones when I got them, but I'll bet they do now because of the holidays. Also, if you can't find the colored kind, you could probably just spray paint them.
Does anyone know which ones of these will grow a little? Our office entrance had a lovely arrangement (in a darkish colour) which we realised was alive and still growing - looked really pretty and delicate and I just have a soft spot for the new shoots on plants - think of each leaf and bud as - "new life". Excuse the sappiness.
