Was thinking about going to NYC for New Years, could someone give me the inside scoop on best places to go and whats the best place to buy tickets for?  And if this is a good idea?  I know I dont want to really stand in times square with the Large crowd, but think other than that it would be fun to experience it...

Any other suggestions on places in the US to experience New Years?

Ps.... im 23 grad student

oh man, i know this isn't what you want to hear, but I live in NYC and most people I know throw house parties on new year's cause it's such a nightmare to go out! Even if you don't go anywhere near times square, every bar wants to charge you $100 cover to get in the door, everything is insanely crowded, there are lines, etc. etc. And it's freezing! This year we are actually fleeing to Florida.

But if you're from out of town and you're with a group of friends, I think you will definitely make it really really fun just cause you'll be psyched to be there. Just be prepared for it to be EXTREMELY expensive.

I agree with Sephorablue. Last year was such a fiasco that this year we refused to go out to a bar. We're going to throw a small party, and maybe go out after 12:30 (when the crowds are much better because everyone flees from the open bar things because they were miserable but wanted to stay until the ball dropped).

That said, if you want to brave the awful, horrendous, terrible crowds and don't mind standing in line for a half an hour for one "open bar" drink-- you can find listings of some of the New Year's bar listings at www.sheckys.com

We spent New Years in Vegas 2 years ago and it was incredible. They close off the Strip to traffic so it just becomes a huge party in the street, its wild. There are tons of parties and concerts and stuff. We had so much fun.

I was going to suggest Vegas before I saw Brazen's post.  I went a few years back and it was fun.
