As an effort to make our local mall more appealing, they have opened a variety of new stores, one I was particularly excited about was BR. I was out shopping w/my daughter & took advantage of stopping by while she was taking a nap in her stroller.
I was amused on the amount of people staffed in the store and that no one, except one shy employee said hello to me after I roamed her 3xs. There was another slutty girl with a super mini and 5 in heels clunking around the floor who almost ran over me about 3xs & never bothered to say excuse me or make any sort of eye contact with me. She even made this snotty face at me like I was in HER way. Then, I was browsing through the sale rack and she reaches over my head to pull a shirt off the wall next & I had to arch my body to prevent from her snatching my hair on the hanger. She NEVER said excuse me or anything. There were 2 more older staff members, maybe management who saw me walking around trying to match a skirt & obvious look of confusion in my face never offered their help. One of those women looked at me like a criminal & followed me into the Petite's room to watch me! I wasnt even carrying any bags, just my wallet, my daughter's stoller basket was empty.
When I left, the 2 older staff members were greeting and a caucasian couple walked out and they both said, "Have a nice day" or whatever, when I walked out they didnt even say a word. I looked back and they were just staring a me.
Maybe I looked too spanish or too poor & that I couldn't afford anything. I know if it would have been my husband or if I were dressed in my work clothes, they would be tripping over themselves trying to help. I was dressed in my long gaucho pants and my sequin shrug & my hair up in a ponytail and no makeup. It was such a degrading experience. Maybe it was just me, but I don't feel uncomfortable w/o reason. I ended up not buying anything, which is NOT my character, cuz I felt so bad. I can't wait to go in there with my hubby so he can put them in their place.
that is terrible! i'm so sorry it happened to you. i wonder if BR is just getting more lax with their hiring and training, or maybe these people were newer, seasonal employees or something--it never used to be like that in BR.
I get this sometimes too. I think they see that I look young (I'm 20 but look 17) and they think I'm going to steal. I've also been told as soon as I walked into a store (ted baker) "Oh, the sale stuff is in the back" No hello or other greeting...nothing! So rude!
This happened to me this Sunday. I was grubby - messy bun, college sweatshirt and my torn Yanuks and no one bothered to help me at all. Usually they are in love with me when I am dressed nicer and they should be with the amount of money I spend there.
This usually happens to me at certain BR stores in my area. I've noticed that if I look too grubby or am not dressed up to go shopping, I will not get any help from any of the sales people, not even a greeting. For this reason, I now prefer to buy things online. I don't even bother to go to the B&M stores unless I really need to.
Bargain Queen- I was in there about 10 days ago to buy some stuff for my trips and interviews. I spent $300 I think on two pairs of pants, a silk shirt and a sweater. I was paying at the counter and the girl said, "who helped you today?" and i said, "noone" and she said "oh, come on, someone must have spoken to you." and I said "no-they didn't and you guys really need to work on that."
they can be so rude there or they are more interested in talking about folding sweaters or talking about what they did last night.

I had the same experience recently at a BR in a more upscale mall. I don't know what the deal was, I was dressed decently. I wanted to try on a coat and there were about four SA's behind the register just talking. I went to the dressing room and there were two SA's back there and I had to initiate contact to get them to open a dressing room. I needed another size but the SA in the dressing room didn't ask if I needed anything. I would've asked her, but at this point I had already decided that I would not make my purchase at that location.
I meant to go online and complain, thanks for reminding me.
I went to my normal BR and bought the coat because they are usually nice there, even when I'm not dressed well. However, the girl left the security sensor on my coat and I didn't realize it until the other day when I put it on.

That's so awful, I'm really sorry so many of you girls have been ignored by the SAs there, or worse, treated rudely.....I've never had a problem at BR, it must just be random based on location? I visit about 3 BRs pretty frequently.
The other weekend I was in a Kenneth Cole store with my mom and we were looking at the handbags. She picked up a handbag and was looking for the price tag (it must have been tucked inside) and this one catty male SA said to us, "are you looking for anything besides the price tag?" or something like that. I don't know if he meant it as rude as it sounded, but we were so put off by it. And hello, I had on a Kenneth Cole watch and my mom was wearing a Reaction Kenneth Cole bag.
I hate it when SAs make assumptions based on appearances. I love it in Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts goes back and tells off the SAs who work on commission!

I came, I saw, I did a little shopping.
I am so sorry this happened to you! I have never had a problem there. I am betting that every single one of those employees were seasonal and clearly have no clue how to treat people with respect!
This is how I am treated nearly every time I go shopping! And I swear the only reason SA's customer service me is if they think I've come in to steal stuff! Last week I went into the Welcome Home shop (small store) to look at decor. Nobody else was shopping in there and there was two sales gals at the counter in the front. I walked in, they didn't even bother to say hello or talk about the specials. I was in there at least 1/2 hour even sifting through large piecs of wall art. I guess they were too busy talking to each other since even as I left, they said nothing! I did not feel welcome at all! I will not be returning to that location even though I saw some art I wanted to buy but didn't have room in my car at the time.

That is AWFUL!!! I can't believe the guy said that! I would have dropped the bag on the floor right then and there and walked out. (Well, maybe not, but still!)
BargainQueen, I would go to BR's website and complain. Also, I just bought something there and you can give customer service feedback and get 10% off your next purchase by doing so. I mentioned the fact that BR sales associates have the tendency to ignore their customers (because they do at my local store too) and I told them that I thought they were getting a reputation of being really snooty.
