Ugh. I just need  moment to vent about a pet peeve.

DH constantly plays the TV and the radio so loud that it hurts my ears! I feel like a total nag because I'm always asking him to turn the volume down and it's to the point where he gets angry now if I ask him to turn it down. b=But seriously, it is so loud (and I have extremely sensitive ears). It's like I'm sitting in the room with my grandpa, who was hard of hearing and constantly had the TV up at full volume.

I think he needs his hearing checked, but then he always tells me that I talk to loudly, so maybe not.

/pet peeve rant

Ooo! That would drive me nuts. I'm in the same boat as you with the sensitive hearing. When I don't want to be distracted, startled, or annoyed, I wear earplugs. I do it in the library, on planes, in restaurants when I'm eating by myself, and other places. It really helps; however, it would be nice if DH was a little more understanding.

Totally with you on this one! I'd also suggest hearing check...what's his occupation, does it have anything to do with high volume sounds? My dad is like that...& try to suggest him the same...feel for you...

@pollyjean, earplugs are good, but sometimes I want to watch what he's watching and it's just too loud! I think maybe his frustration is that when he turns it down so it doesn't hurt my ears, he says he can't hear it as well. But like I said, he thinks I talk too loud and rarely has issues hearing people speak, so I have no idea. Maybe he just likes listening to the television at really high volumes like he's in a movie theater???

@Yana, he's a sales manager, so no loud sounds at work. I still think a hearing check is a good idea.

Would one earplug help? There must be some sort of wireless headsets where you could each have the volume how you like it.

I almost think loud TVs are a guy thing. My DH also seems to need every light on in a room, whereas I like the lights low. (He is losing his hearing, and so is our 15-year-old cat...they're quite a pair. She doesn't meow anymore, she SCREAMS, and he accuses me of "mumbling" when he doesn't hear me correctly.)

Suas, that reminds me. They make earplugs that filter out damaging levels of sound. They're everyday versions of the kind that musicians wear on stage. You can hear normal stuff, but the super loud sounds will be reduced.

Try one of the following searches:

filtered earplugs

musicans' earplugs

filtered earplugs concerts

This! How do they even sleep with the television so loud? My DH falls asleep in his chair with the tv blaring.
