I should have named my post "What Happens When Pollyjean's Mind Runs Away with Itself."
I was in the process of filling out the lost package claim, when the maintenance man for the apartment complex (who, I must say, is SUPER good-looking) knocked on my door. He had two packages in his hand, showed me the labels and asked, is this you? I said yes. He pointed out that the little auxiliary label on each package read a different house number than my address. My address was correct on the main UPS label, but it got messed up when it was transferred.
So does that mean someone is actually typing or writing in the address again so it goes onto the new sticker on the same box?! UPS needs an efficiency expert consultation or something.
So, both, my Cole Haan and Sephora orders are safe and sound. Now I just gotta open the boxes and make sure everything is correct.
My apartment building's address is really weird. I think I am going to find another way to receive packages during the remainder of my stay in Ohio.
Oh, and, BTW, Cole Haan does NOT plaster their name all over their boxes. :)
My shoes were scheduled to arrive at my apartment today. I didn't know if I was going to be home, so I put a note on the door to have them leave the package and not put one of the sticky notes on my door because nothing sticks to the door. I had already missed one delivery of the shoes because the sticky note flew off my door.
Well, UPS says the package was delivered at 2:30pm, and it's not there!
And, of course, nothing is ever just clean, black and white....
Today, (through my peep hole) I saw a woman at my across-the-hall neighbor's door who looked like she was having trouble with her key. She gave up and walked away. I have never met or seen the neighbor, so I don't know what she looks like. I just thought the lady was her. This was, I think, around the time the package was supposedly delivered. (???)
UPS never rang the doorbell, and I was sitting right next to the door, inside the whole afternoon until I left at about 4:00. I was also checking the door often for the package because I didn't want it to sit out for this very reason (hence why I happened to be looking out the peep hole).
And knowing companies like Cole Haan, they probably had COLE HAAN plastered all over the box, so someone just walking by would know it was valuable for a distance. I am always so careful about everything - - to the point of stifling. This is why I don't take risks.
Sooooo.... Do you think I will be able to recover anything in this case, since I left the stupid note?
Has this happened to anyone? What did you do? I guess I now have to report a suspicious person to the apartment management office? TIA

I'd call UPS immediately and log a missing package complaint. UPS should have tried to ring the doorbell regardless of a note (how do they know that you left it and not somebody else?)
I wouldn't call the landlord about the person across the hall that you saw. My guess is that it was your neighbor (since you said that you didn't know what she looked like anyway.) Now, I would make it a point to go across the hall, next door to you and any other close apartments and ask if they happened to be delivered a UPS package by mistake. This will give you a chance to at least meet your neighbors (who you should know by sight for safety reasons at the the least.) And maybe one of them is "accidentally" holding the package because they don't know who you are.
Yay! And you know, even though you're happily married and all, there's no reason not to test out the Dior mascara on that maintenance guy. I'm just saying....
