Well this Saturday my church youth is going to Austin since we are having a conference thing. We are going pretty early so we can just hang out. Any of you girls have any suggestions on what we can do? Something inexpensive? They are pretty much open to anything. Thanks in advance.
blubirde would know better than me, but i spent a couple of days there and my bf and i seemed to spend most of the time eating, drinking (which is probably out ), and listening to music. i guess my only advice is you should try Amy's Ice Cream.

If you're looking for outdoor activities, I suggest Zilker Park and Town Lake (right by each other). There's a hike and bike trail on Town Lake that everyone runs/walks/bikes on. There are lots of dog parks around where everyone takes their very cute animals to, and Zilker Park always has something going on. You could also try the Green Belt, which is a really pretty greenery area where people hike and hang out.
Shopping - Barton Creek Mall is the best. I could spend hours in Nordstroms alone, trying on shoes. There's a street called South Congress that has a lot of interesting things. There are shops, an Amy's Ice Cream , restaurants, vintage stores, etc. You just park on the street and start walking up and down it. If you're going this Saturday you absolutely HAVE to go into Lucy's in Disguise. It's a costume shop and it's completely awesome this time of year. There's a mexican food restaurant (Guero's) that Bill Clinton likes to eat at when he's in town. They're famous for their fish tacos.
Bowling - there's a bowling alley in the Texas Union on the UT campus. In the evening it has "disco bowling" with music and black lights - a stoner's paradise but pretty fun for regular folks as well. There's also a place called Highland Lanes that is all right but I'm not a big bowler so I'm not entirely sure what qualifies as cool.
Saturday - there's a UT game on campus, so if I were you I'd avoid that part of town right before the game starts (2:30) because it will be crazy. It will be fine after then though because everyone will be at the game.
I think that's your questions answered but if you have anything more specific, let me know. I'll check back to see if you've posted. Also, if you're looking for restaurants, tell me what part of town you'll be in and what kind of food and I'll give you some recs.

We were supposed to meet up 8 am, but they changed it to 10 am. Of course, people didn't show up till 11. Ok, so the driver took a "short cut." It took us about 3.5 hrs to get to Austin. It usually takes us 2-2.5 hrs. So we got there late. We went to downtown for a couple of hours and then we got really hungry. We ate at the Taco Cabana where all the UT students go.(lol)
That was it.
& we went to the youth service.
It was so much fun though even though we weren't able to do what we had plan. We totally had a blast hanging out and what not. On the way back they took the "short cut" again even though we told them not to.
